- Croatia bounced back from their 4-2 defeat to England by edging past Panama 1-0, a result that lifts them into third place and leaves them in a strong position to reach the knockout stages. In truth, Zlatko Dalić’s side are one of several teams who may already have done enough — but avoiding defeat here would mathematically confirm their progression.
- There is still an outside chance of topping the group too. A Croatian win combined with an England slip‑up would see them finish first, and they should take confidence from their recent record against African opposition, having gone four World Cup games unbeaten against such sides (W3, D1).
- Their loss to England remains Croatia’s only defeat in their last eight World Cup group‑stage matches (W5, D2), underlining their reliability at this stage of the tournament. William Hill make them slight favourites at 3/4 to get the job done here.
- Ghana arrived at this World Cup in dreadful form, losing five of their six warm‑up matches and drawing the other, but the Black Stars finally halted that slide with a hard‑fought 1-0 win over Panama.
- They then executed their game plan perfectly against England — it wasn’t pretty, but Carlos Queiroz’s low‑block approach frustrated the Three Lions and earned the point that confirmed Ghana’s place in the knockout stages for the first time since 2010.
- This well‑organised, disciplined side now have the chance to make even more history. A clean sheet on Saturday would make Ghana the first African nation to keep three shutouts in a single World Cup group stage — a remarkable feat given where they were just a fortnight ago. Punters who believe the Black Stars can finish the job can back a Ghanaian win at 19/5 with William Hill.
