New Zealand v Belgium – Saturday, 4am

- Just one game stands between New Zealand and a slice of World Cup history. Victory over Belgium wouldn’t just mark the All Whites’ first ever win at a World Cup finals — it would also likely secure their first‑ever place in the knockout stages.
- However, that is far easier said than done. Darren Bazeley’s side have now lost ten of their last thirteen matches in all competitions, and they haven’t beaten a European nation since 2010. This is a monumental challenge for a team still searching for consistency.
- New Zealand will also be kicking themselves after taking the lead in both of their World Cup games so far, only to drop points in each. Those missed opportunities leave them with a mountain to climb — and William Hill’s odds reflect that, with the All Whites priced at a huge 18/1 to pull off a famous win.
- Belgium are now fifteen games unbeaten dating back to March 2025 yet their World Cup could be over on Saturday if they don’t win having drawn both their games thus far against Egypt and Iran, despite being favourites to win this group, they head into the final game sat third.
- There may be some concern about a slight dip on the biggest stage, with Belgium now winless in their last four World Cup matches, having previously won eleven of thirteen. Even so, Rudi Garcia will fully expect his side to win this.
- The signs are encouraging ahead of this one. Although Belgium and New Zealand have never met before, the All Whites have struggled historically against European opposition having won just one of their last eighteen such games (D4, L13). William Hill make Garcia’s men the 3/20 favourites to claim a vital victory.
