Canada will receive a rapturous welcome in Vancouver as they look to seal their first ever World Cup knockout‑stage, with victory over Switzerland set to decide who finishes top of Group B.
Now, let’s take a closer look at some World Cup odds and betting angles for Wednesday’s fixture:
Switzerland v Canada – Wednesday, 8pm
View all available markets at William Hill
- Both sides have all but secured their place in the round of 32, and a draw here would see them both safely through. But with only goal difference separating them at the top of Group B, Switzerland and Canada will each be eyeing top spot rather than settling for a point.
- Switzerland have now lost just two of their last eighteen group‑stage matches at major tournaments. A win here would not only confirm their place in the World Cup knockout rounds for the fourth consecutive edition — it would also see them top a World Cup group for the first time since 2006.
- Defensively, the A‑Team have been consistent too, conceding more than once in only one of their last thirteen matches, a 4-3 defeat to Germany in March. William Hill price the Swiss at 13/10 to take all three points.
- Whatever happens on Wednesday, Canada look well on course to reach the World Cup knockout stages for the first time in their history. Sitting top of the group heading into the final matchday underlines just how far Jesse Marsch’s side have come.
- The Canucks know that simply avoiding defeat would secure them top spot, and they arrive in strong form — unbeaten in their last ten matches across all competitions (W4, D6).
- Goals are usually at a premium in Canada games, with just two of their last twelve producing three or more. Switzerland, however, have seen both teams score in seven of their last eight, pointing towards a tight, competitive contest. All signs suggest a cagey affair, and a 1-1 draw — available at 5/1 with William Hill — looks a very plausible outcome.
Bet Builder Hub:
- Both Teams To Score – Yes – Switzerland have seen both teams score in seven of their last eight games in all competitions.
- Total Corners – Over 9.5 – Both sides have seen their last two World Cup fixtures produce at least ten corners.
- Total Cards – Over 3.5 – Ramon Abatti is the man in the middle, he’s produced four or more cards in six of his last seven games, including his only game at this tournament thus far.
