Alfred Dunhill Links Championship Predictions: 12/1 MacIntyre For Emotional Home Success

Matt Fitzpatrick is the 8/1 golf betting favourite for the 2026 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship ahead of Tommy Fleetwood and Tyrrell Hatton and William Hill News preview this week’s tournament.

Fitzpatrick is aiming to go back-to-back after winning the Open de France last week. He’s part of a strong field, which includes Justin Rose, Robert MacIntyre, and Brooks Koepka.

MacIntyre was magnificent at this event 12 months ago. A proud Scot, he will be desperate to put up a strong title defence in his home country.

He had a difficult period between April and June, but MacIntyre finished 10th at the Travelers Championship and backed that up with a third at the Scottish Open. He tied for 14th at the Irish Open and tied for 10th at Wentworth.

Alex Fitzpatrick hasn’t got a particularly encouraging record at the Dunhill Links. Still, he tied for seventh at the Irish Open and has had a breakout year. Given how well Brits have gone at this event over the years, we like the value taking the lesser-known Fitzpatrick at 12/5.

Jacob Skov Olesen tied for fifth at this event last year. He had five consecutive top 20 finishes before missing the cut at Wentworth, including a stellar all-around performance to finish seventh at the Irish Open. We’ve repeatedly seen the Dane contend in tricky links conditions.

The Format

The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship isn’t your normal two rounds followed by a cut. Every pro is paired with an amateur.

The pairings rotate through three links courses – the Old Course at St. Andrews, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns – with the top 60 pros and the top 20 teams earning a final round at St. Andrews on Sunday.

Pace of play is often slow. It’s a format that is far from universally popular, but it’s also intriguing in its uniqueness. Hatton is a three-time champion, MacIntyre dominated last year, and betting favourite Fitzpatrick won by three shots in 2023.

Fleetwood has seven top-10 finishes and has twice finished as runner-up. He also won the Team Championship back in 2019.

The amateur field inevitably features plenty of celebrities. This time around, Bill Murray, Piers Morgan, Steve Redgrave, Tony McCoy, Kevin Pietersen, and Gareth Bale are some of the biggest names set to tackle three of the world’s greatest links courses.

Links Golf Challenges

Form on links courses is important for bettors evaluating these markets. Look at the Scottish Open, Irish Open, and a few Dutch courses for a read on how golfers have fared in these conditions.

Equally, weather is bound to be a factor. The forecast is pretty mixed this week. Playing Kingsbarns in high winds completely changes what a good score is, and some people think it’s an advantage to play St. Andrews on back-to-back days.

Traditionally, playing Carnoustie first has been the best draw for success. That looks to be the case again this week, with weather seeming pretty favourable on Thursday.

Brits tend to have an advantage in this event with the links golf they played growing up. There’s also been plenty of Scandinavian success over the years. Outsiders often find themselves in the mix deep into Sunday afternoon.
