Tommy Fleetwood Is the Punters’ Pick for The Open
William Hill’s latest betting figures show Tommy Fleetwood is the punters’ pick to win this week’s Open Championship, with the Southport local proving the bookmaker’s biggest liability ahead of the tournament at Royal Birkdale.
Fleetwood has attracted more stakes than any other player in the outright market, ahead of fellow Englishmen Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose.
Rory McIlroy is currently the fourth best-backed player, with interest in the Northern Irishman expected to increase as Thursday’s opening round draws closer.

William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: “As Royal Birkdale puts the finishing touches on their preparations for this year’s Open Championship, our traders are bracing themselves for a fairytale as punters latch onto hometown hero Tommy Fleetwood.
“Fleetwood is easily the worst result in our book as things stand, and he is not the only British player to have drawn significant interest.
“In terms of total stakes, Fleetwood heads the list of best-backed players, with Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy, Robert MacIntyre and Tyrrell Hatton taking up almost half of all stakes in the outright market.
“While the British crowd will be cheering on their national heroes, our traders will be hoping someone can cause an upset this weekend!”
