Dani Jackson’s Greyhound Tips: Holding Blaze to set Sheffield alight in Steel City Cup
William Hill ambassador Dani Jackson is back with her best bets across a stacked weekend of Greyhound Racing action from Romford, Dunstall Park, Central Park, and Sheffield featuring the Steel City Cup.
Friday, Romford
Nap: Trap 4 – Carrick Scholesy (8.33pm)
Next Best: Trap 1 – Grouchos Gregor (8.53pm)
Treble: Trap 2 – Newinn Jolly (8.13pm)
Carrick Scholesy is a powerhouse of a greyhound, and he won readily in the heats of the Champion Stakes last week.
He first took my eye in the Derby, where he stayed on strongly through the line and to the drop. I immediately thought six bends would suit him down to the ground. He has ten wins over six bends from eighteen starts, and all bar one have been routs from the front. He’s a very gutsy greyhound who hates being passed, so as long as he traps like he did last week, he should be tough to catch.
He’s drawn well on the inside of another quick starter, Charlie Loves Me, and I think that gives him the edge. The pair recorded the same time when winning last week, so expect a belting battle between them.
I fancy these two to be your qualifiers for next week’s final, but it all hinges on the break and avoiding trouble. As always, it should be a belter of an evening at Romford, and we’ll find out which six make it through to the Champion Stakes Final.
Saturday, Dunstall Park
- 6.38pm: Trap 2 – Avarua Lake (TBL)
- 6.58pm: Trap 2 – Strike It Skye
- 7.18pm: Trap 4 – Magical Jason
- 7.38pm: Trap 5 – Aayamza Shazza (NB)
- 7.58pm: Trap 1 – Shadow Storm
- 8.18pm: Trap 4 – Headford Fiona (NAP)
Saturday, Central Park
- NAP: Trap 1 – Proper Heiress (9.10pm)
- NB: Trap 3 – Ari Up (8.50pm)
- TBL: Trap 6 – Headford Lily (8.10pm)
- Also fancied: Trap 2 – Yahoo Megan (8.30pm)
Sunday at Sheffield: Steel City Cup Final
Nap: Trap 6 – Holding Blaze (4.59pm)
It’s time for my yearly pilgrimage to Sheffield for the final of the Steel City Cup.
Holding Blaze is the best drawn dog in the field, and he’s been trading blows with his next-door neighbour Woltemade in every round so far. They’re one apiece, and I think Blaze wins on the draw this week. The only time Woltemade has lost a Category One final was here at Owlerton in the Gymcrack, and I envisage similar scenes from a less-than-ideal draw.
Blaze has been the model of consistency over the last two weeks, with times just three spots apart. Even if things don’t go to plan today, he should make the frame, as he has in the majority of his races at Sheffield.
Richie Taberner is having a great time of things recently, and he may be taking a big trophy home.
You can watch every race live with William Hill and enjoy a few price boosts along the way.
