Charlie Hills’ William Hill blog: A busy few days at Newmarket and Newbury

| BY News Team

I was really happy with Orazio at Newmarket on Wednesday. He got a lovely ride from William [Buick] and, while he probably didn’t come down the hill that well, he was good when he hit the rising ground. He stayed on really well and I think we’ll work back from the Wokingham at Royal Ascot with him.

Thursday, Newmarket

Garrus runs in the Abernant Stakes (3.00pm). He’s a very solid horse who rarely runs a bad race and was second in this race 12 months ago. The ground should be right up his street too and, while Creative Force will be difficult to beat, he’s certainly not without a chance.

Hopefully Harry Magnus will go well in the seven-furlong handicap (5.15pm). It’s obviously a competitive race, but he’s on an upward curve and I’ve been pleased with his work at home. The form of his Kempton win has worked out well too.

Friday, Newbury

Our first runner on Friday is Tanmawwy in the six-furlong handicap (2.05pm). He’s been working with Orazio so it obviously did this lad’s chances no harm when Orazio won on Wednesday. The track and ground should be perfect for him and we’re hopeful he’ll go very well in this.

Lord Uhtred makes his first start in a handicap (4.25pm). It’s his first start of the season so he’ll improve on whatever he does. Conditions should be in his favour, though, and I’d like to think he’s a horse with a nice future.

Lady Of Anjou has had a few niggles which is why she hasn’t run yet. She’s ready to go now though and takes her chance in the fillies’ maiden (5.30pm). It’s good to get her out at last, and she’ll certainly come on from the outing.

Saturday, Newbury

We run Lady Alara in the Fred Darling (2.05pm). I’ve been really pleased with her work and she’s wintered really well. She seems very well in herself and we know she’s a nice type based on that maiden win. She’ll need to step on what she’s done so far, but fillies at this time of year can certainly do that and she could easily outrun her odds.

Both Sugar Hill and Eagle Eyed Tom run in the mile maiden (3.50pm). I was really pleased with the former’s first run and this race has been the plan ever since. I think he’s a horse with plenty of talent and the step up to a mile will certainly help too.

Eagle Eyed Tom ran a nice race on debut and I’d like to think he’ll build on that here.

Saturday, Nottingham

Saratoga Spirit runs in the 1m2f handicap (8.00pm). She should like the ground up there and her work has been good at home, so I’d be confident that she’s up to winning races.
