Charlie Hills’ William Hill blog: If Iberian can show the sort of ability he has been showing at home, he’ll be very hard to beat

Newmarket, Saturday

It’s a big day with Iberian running in the Dewhurst Stakes (2.00pm) at Newmarket.

We’ve been very very happy with him since his win in the Champagne at Doncaster. His work has been good and he seems in a great place. He’s always had a really good attitude and temperament, so we’re really looking forward to the race.

I think he’ll be better on quicker ground, but I’m not too worried about the rain we’ve had because he showed he can handle it –  and handle it well – at Doncaster. That’s obviously a positive and, although I imagine the ground will be on the soft side, it’s never too bad at Newmarket.

He’s always been a very straightforward horse to train, but we didn’t overwork him too early as he’s not bred to be too precocious and we’ve always thought he’d get better with age. When we worked him he really impressed us and has done so ever since.

I’ve been very lucky to train some top-class milers like Just The Judge and Phoenix Of Spain and I’m hoping this lad can get up to that sort of level. His work has been really impressive and if he can show the sort of ability he has been showing at home, he’ll be very hard to beat.

It’s a big day, but we’re looking forward to it. We know City Of Troy will be tough to beat, but we have a lot of confidence in Iberian and these are the days you look forward to.
