Charlie Hills’ William Hill blog: Plenty of chances on Friday and Saturday

| BY News Team

We’ve enjoyed a great winter campaign and things have continued well now we’re out racing on the grass. We’ve got another busy few days with hopefully plenty of live chances, but before I touch on those, here are my thoughts on some of my runners from the last few days.

I was really happy with Wanees at Sandown. They went a good strong gallop and the plan was always to hold him up to learn about this trip and possibly even further. I’m sure we’ll do that in the future as he was doing his best work at the end and hopefully we’ll enjoy a really good season with him. He went up seven pounds which should get us into the Britannia at Royal Ascot and we’ll head there next.

You had to be delighted with Mutasaabeq too. He might have just been touched off, but it was a great run and given he got the mile well, we’ve got a few more options now. I’m thinking we might go to the Diomed Stakes at Epsom next and I’m looking forward to running him again.

Roxzoff showed a nice turn of foot at Brighton and you had to be happy with the way he got the job done. We’ll probably give him a bit of time off now before finding another handicap.

Goodwood Friday

We kick things off on Friday with Tuscan in a conditions race at Goodwood (1.30pm). He’s been in good form since his win at Newmarket and I’m hopeful the extra furlong here will help him too. We were considering Newmarket but thought this race looked a better option and fingers crossed he shows it was the right decision.

Shobiz goes in the six-furlong handicap (3.50pm). He’s been working nicely at home and is ready to go, so with any luck he can put his best foot forward on his seasonal debut. He looks to have strengthened up since last year and hopefully there’s a bit of improvement to come.

We worked Saratoga Gold at Newmarket a couple of weeks ago and that should have brought him forward ahead of his run in the 1m6f handicap (5.00pm). He’s in good form and should run well, although I’m hoping the ground isn’t too quick.

Newmarket Friday

Over at Newmarket, we run Menai Bridge in the mile handicap (4.45pm). It’s a small field and I’d like to think he’ll run a nice race. He’ll like the ground and the drop in trip won’t be a problem either.

Newcastle Friday

I’d be pretty hopeful that King’s Knight would be able to follow up in the seven-furlong handicap (7.20pm) at Newcastle. I was very happy with his last run, and he’s been in good form since, so he should go very close again. He’d be among one of our better chances over the next few days.

Goodwood Saturday

Dream Show’s work has been solid and I’m looking forward to seeing how he gets on in the seven-furlong handicap (1.35pm) at Goodwood. He should be competitive off his opening mark of 82, though three-year-old handicaps are never easy to win at this time of year.

Newmarket Saturday

Khaadem has been going nicely at home ahead of his run in the Palace House Stakes (3.00pm) at Newmarket. He showed a lot of speed when he won last season at Doncaster over five so this trip should be fine. It’s clearly a competitive race, but he’s in good form.

I’m excited to see how Loves Me Likearock goes in the closing handicap (5.25pm). She’s working really nicely at home and I’m very happy with her. I’d be hopeful she’ll be very competitive.

Doncaster Saturday

I’m looking forward to running Tommy De Vito over seven furlongs (4.45pm). This trip should suit him better as should the flatter track at Doncaster.

Cephalus wasn’t quite right after his run last time so has had a bit of a break, but he’s in great form now and this looks a nice race (6.00pm) for him. He’s won his last four and I can’t see any reason why he isn’t still improving. If I’m right, then he should go very close to the five-timer.
