Charlie Hills’ William Hill blog: Garrus and Galeron both have live Curragh chances

William Hill ambassador Charlie Hills looks ahead to a busy weekend for his stable, with runners at Haydock, Chester, York and Salisbury, as well as two contenders in Group company at the Curragh.

Haydock, Saturday

Bodorgan should go nicely in the mile handicap (2.25pm) at Haydock. The form of his Newmarket win at the backend of last season has been franked a few times and I’m looking forward to getting him out. He had a little setback over the winter, but his work has been good leading into this race and I’d hope his opening mark is workable.

I’d like to think something like a Britannia could be on the agenda later in the season.

We run both Equality and Equilateral in the Temple Stakes (3.30pm).

A draw in one doesn’t look ideal for Equality, but he’s in good form and won really well when last seen at Haydock.

Equilateral seems to be coming back to his best now and I thought he ran pretty well out in Dubai. The track and trip should suit.

Curragh, Saturday

The Greenlands Stakes (2.30pm) looks a good spot for Garrus and I’m hopeful he’ll go close. I’ve been very pleased with how he’s been moving at home and I couldn’t really have him in better form. He was great at Newmarket and goes there with a leading chance.

Galeron takes his chance in the Irish 2000 Guineas (3.40pm). We were absolutely thrilled with his run in the 2000 Guineas last time and this has very much been the plan since. Everything has gone well with him over the past few weeks and if anything I think he looks a little tighter. If he can run up to the same sort of form as he did at Newmarket, he has to have a live chance of being involved.

Chester, Saturday

A draw in four looks good for Sioux Warrior and should hold strong claims in the six-furlong maiden (2.55pm). The form of his Doncaster second looks pretty solid and I’d have thought he’d have a pretty good chance of getting off the mark here.

York, Saturday

Saxon King runs in the mile handicap (4.25pm). The horse that finished second to him at Newmarket last time has come out and won since at York, so the form looks strong, and I’m looking forward to running him on fast ground. I can’t see any reason why he won’t go on it and if he does, he should be very competitive.

Salisbury, Saturday

The Cathedral Stakes (7.10pm) doesn’t look the strongest of races and if on-song Khaadem certainly has the ability to win it. I’d like to see him run to a good standard over six furlongs because his recent form has been over five. He won a Stewards’ Cup, so we know he can get the extra distance and be hopeful he can show that here.
