Charlie Hills’ William Hill Blog: Equilateral can put on a Sho

William Hill ambassador Charlie Hills gives his thoughts on his weekend runners from Haydock and Goodwood.

Haydock, Saturday

Equilateral goes in the Achilles Stakes (1:15pm). He ran a really good race last time at Haydock in the Temple Stakes. He was drawn against the stands’ side rail that day and, if that’s anything to go by, then he should be well-drawn again.

Frankie [Dettori] rode him last time and is on board again. He knows the horse pretty well.

This is a bit of a drop in class, but it still won’t be an easy race to win. He goes there with some of the best form in the race, though, and we’ve been pleased with him since last time. I’d probably make him my best chance of the weekend.

Catterick, Saturday

Ludden Lass goes up to Catterick for a maiden (2:10pm). She didn’t run badly when finishing sixth last time at Newmarket. She’s got a nice draw in stall one and, if she gets away well, hopefully she’ll have a good chance.

Goodwood, Sunday

Dark Fandango runs in the novice at 2:10pm, with William Buick aboard. He just fluffed his lines on his debut, so I think you can discount that and treat this as his first run. I really like this horse.

I’ll be keeping an eye on the ground for Shobiz, who is set to run in the William Hill Handicap (4:55pm), as I wouldn’t want the ground too firm for him.

He won nicely at Newbury last time, and he’s a lightly-raced horse for his age so hopefully there’s still a bit more mileage in him. We know he likes it at Goodwood as he’s won there in the past and, if he takes his chance, hopefully he can run another good race.
