Charlie Hills’ William Hill blog: Galeron in great form ahead of Newcastle run

William Hill ambassador Charlie Hills gives an update on his recent runners and looks forward to Galeron’s reappearance at Newcastle.

Updates

I was delighted with Cicero’s Gift at Wolverhampton. I was conscious he’d had just one run so I wanted to get a bit more experience into him and he did it really nicely. They didn’t go much of a gallop and he took a bit of time to get into top gear but when he got going I was very impressed. He hit the line hard which always bodes well and it was a super start to the season.

That will bring him on no end and he’s one we’re excited about moving forward. I haven’t made any firm plans as yet, but he’s come out of the race well, and I guess we’ll make a decision at the back end of next week.

Nothing went right for Wanees in the Lincoln at Doncaster. It was too bad to be true as we know he’s much better than that. He was beaten after a furlong and we’ll just put a line through it and reset.

He’ll have a bit of a break now and then we’ll start again.

Friday, Newcastle

We’re looking forward to getting Galeron’s season underway in the Listed Burradon Stakes (1.15pm) at Newcastle. I must admit I wasn’t thrilled when I saw we were drawn in one, but it is what it is.

He’s one of the form horses in the race after that win at the Curragh at the back end of last season and while there are obviously a few in there against us that look likely to improve, we’re very happy with our horse.

It’s a competitive race but it should be for one with such good prize money on offer and we’re hopeful of a big showing. He’ll certainly come on from whatever he does, but his work has been really good at home and he’s where I’d like him to be at this stage of the season. He’s quite a laidback type of horse who does just what he needs to on the gallops though he’s shown on the track the ability he has.

I’ve always thought plenty of him and while he was great last season, we’ve always thought he’d be better at three. The Guineas is under consideration, but we’ll see how he goes at Newcastle and that will dictate our plans moving forward.
