Nigel Twiston-Davies’ William Hill Blog: Getting a good Tune out of Chance

We were all very pleased with Spirits Bay’s win at Exeter on Friday. He’s a smart individual who will have plenty more wins ahead of him, but we just have to wait and see what rating he gets now!

This weekend, I have a few runners at Kempton, Chepstow and Hereford to look forward to.

Saturday, Kempton

First up on Saturday is Lord Of Cheshire in the 2m5f handicap hurdle (1.15pm). He’s been running very well this season, bar a fall last time out, from which he is none the worse. Before that, he’d won and been the runner-up in his two outings before Christmas. He seems in very good form at home and I can’t see any reason why he shouldn’t be running another very competitive race.

Saturday, Chepstow

We run Dasher in the 2m3½f maiden hurdle (1.23pm). He ran nicely in bumpers last season, placing in both starts, but this is his first run of the season as he came back in quite late, so he’ll just be going for a nice run round, do as best he can and learn for the experience.

Sunday, Hereford

Mavis Pike runs in the two-mile mares’ maiden hurdle (3.10pm). She’s quite a nice mare who ran well on her hurdles debut last month for fifth place in very testing conditions, so we could see some progress, but I suspect this race may be too good for her. We’ll see what she can do, though, as we know she copes with the heavier ground.

After that, Chance A Tune runs in the 2m3f handicap chase (3.40pm). His efforts so far this season have been pleasing, with a win in October and respectable performances since. He goes up against Gary Moore’s Abingworth here, who beat him home last time they met, and I’m hoping that he can reverse the form here. He’s been going nicely at home and has James Turner’s seven pounds in his arsenal.

Finally, Awesome Foursome is in the 2m5½f novices’ handicap hurdle (4.40pm).  Having run a terrific race last time to be denied by just a nose at Chepstow, he should have a very good chance. This doesn’t look a particularly hot race, so it could be made for him.
