Welsh Grand National Ante-Post Predictions & Betting Tips (2025)
Held in the rural surroundings of the Welsh border town Chepstow, The Welsh Grand National is run over a marathon three‐and‐three‐quarter miles, often in testing ground given its date in the calendar.
The long distance handicap chase has seen top‐class talent like Burrough Hill Lad, Cool Ground, Master Oats, Synchronised and Native River all win the contest, before going on to Cheltenham Gold Cup glory.

The Contenders
One of the most high profile contenders in the current lineup is Haiti Couleurs (8/1) who will be hoping to redeem himself in the Welsh Grand National following his Betfair Chase flop at Haydock Park.
Last season’s National Hunt Chase and Irish Grand National hero was considered to be a stronger contender for the Grade 1 prize, but was never a factor in the race.
At a later interview, his trainer Rebecca Curtis said: “He just had an off-day, I don’t think it was anything to do with it being a Graded race or (a lack of) ability. He ran at Newbury only two and a half weeks earlier, Sean (Bowen) didn’t hit him and we thought he had an easy-ish race, but he obviously didn’t and it’s taken a lot out of him.”
If Haiti Couleurs can return to his imperious best, then he holds a great chance of winning on home turf and he’d be a popular winner at the racecourse on 27th December.
Joint ante-post favourite in our sports betting for the race, Mr Vango (8/1), was ruled out of the Welsh Grand National last season but went on to land the Midlands National at Uttoxeter.
Other top scalps last term for the Sara Bradstock-trained gelding were the London National and the Peter Marsh Chase at Haydock Park, marking him out as one of the best staying chasers in the land.
Next month’s Becher Chase has emerged as the likeliest starting point for Mr Vango, but should the weather gods play havoc with his planned route to the Aintree Grand National, he may well end up running in Wales at Christmas.
In this particular instance the 8/1 odds on offer in our horse racing betting are a little risky, but well worthwhile should he run.
Ante-post selection: Mr Vango (E/W)
