Kyren Wilson vs. Jak Jones
Kyren Wilson and Jak Jones are meeting for a 10th time in Sunday’s Northern Ireland Open final. Wilson has an 8-1 record in the head-to-head, with Jones’ only win coming in the German Masters back in 2021.
Jones beat Mark Williams in a deciding frame in Saturday’s semi-final after a 6-5 win over Scott Donaldson in the last eight. He’s beat John Higgins in the second round and is into his third ranking final of the campaign.
After hammering Anthony McGill in the quarters, Wilson was taken the distance by Sam Craigie on Saturday. This is the former world champion’s first ranking final since the Players Championship two seasons ago.
Wilson was a finalist in the Shanghai Masters, though, and reached the quarters of the English Open earlier this season.
It’s easy to see why Wilson is the favourite given his pedigree and track record of success in ranking events. Writing off Jones would be foolish, however, seeing as he’s already won two ranking events this season.
It’s not just Williams and Higgins that Jones has beaten this year. He saw off Mark Selby and Judd Trump at the British Open and defeated David Gilbert in the Championship League final. We think Jones can add another scalp on Sunday.
