Gavin Cromwell’s William Hill blog: Hypotenus could find himself a-long-side D’oroux in winners’ enclosure

Musselburgh, Saturday

I’m looking forward to running Peaches And Cream in the Edinburgh National (2.15pm). He looks to have a very nice profile for the race and the step up in trip to 3m7f will really suit him.

He seems in good form at home and the better ground should be in his favour. It’s a race we’ve had in mind for a while, so I’m hopeful he can be involved at the business end.

Routine Excellence goes in the handicap chase (4.00pm). He’s been a bit disappointing for us as I thought he’d go quite well in the last couple of starts, but he hasn’t performed as we would have hoped. It’s hard to fancy him, but hopefully he’ll run well.

Leopardstown, Saturday

We run two in the Listed handicap chase (4.10pm). Path D’oroux should go nicely here. He was going really well before he fell over Christmas and hopefully the fall hasn’t knocked his confidence. He ran last time in a beginners chase and he jumped okay, so I’d be hopeful he can go very well in what’s obviously a very competitive race.

Final Orders won this race last year and he’s probably a touch up against it off a higher mark. We know he goes well at the track so I wouldn’t totally rule him out.

Musselburgh, Sunday

Hypotenus will hopefully run well in the Scottish Supreme Novices’ Hurdle (2.25pm). Going right-handed on a sharp track should really suit him and, I must admit, I like his chances. The ground should be too his liking and I’d say he is amongst our better chances this weekend.

Leopardstown, Sunday

Another crack at the Grand National at Aintree is very much the plan with Vanillier and he’s coming along nicely ahead of that. This race (3.20pm) should hopefully bring him forward again and should leave us where we want him. It’s hard to compare where he is versus last year, but he’s well in himself and I’m happy with him.

We run two JP McManus-owned horses in the race too in Perceval Legallois and Inothewayurthinkin. It’s a competitive handicap as this race always is, but both are in good form and should run nice races. Inothewayurthinkin makes his first start in a handicap having run well against some good horses previously, while Perceval Legallois should go nicely if he can repeat some of his best form over hurdles.
