Italian Open 2026: Stage Set For More Drama In Rome
All eyes are on the Italian Open as the competition intensifies once again, with William Hill News tipster Sam Cox looking at the standout matches on Tuesday.
The business end of the Italian Open is underway. Women’s quarter-finals and men’s last 16 matches are on the schedule this Tuesday.
Italian Open Predictions Today:
- Jannik Sinner -7.5 games (10/11)
- Thiago Agustín Tirante to win (13/10)
- Sorana Cîrstea -2.5 games (17/20)
- Coco Gauff to win (Evens)
Read below for our tennis betting tips from four of the most tantalising matchups:
Jannik Sinner vs Andrea Pellegrino
Jannik Sinner has dropped nine games across two matches. He’s in the midst of one of the most dominant runs in ATP Tour history, and his outing on Tuesday is against a qualifier in Andrea Pellegrino.
Pellegrino benefited from Arthur Fils withdrawing in the second round but then beat Frances Tiafoe in straight sets. This is by far the best performance of his career.
Unfortunately for fans of underdog stories, this is where Pellegrino’s journey ends.
Thiago Agustín Tirante vs Daniil Medvedev
Thiago Agustín Tirante has already toppled Cam Norrie and Flavio Cobolli. The Argentine now has Daniil Medvedev in his sights.
Medvedev has been a long way from his best of late. He got the benefit of a walkover in his first match at this event and needed to come from a set down to beat a qualifier in his last outing.
This is very much unchartered territory for Tirante, who had never been beyond the second round at a ATP 1000 or Grand Slam before this tournament. He’s had some big scalps of late, though, and should be competitive here.
Sorana Cîrstea vs Jelena Ostapenko
What a run this is from Sorana Cîrstea. The Romanian has a legitimate chance of going all the way after beating Aryna Sabalenka and Linda Nosková in the last two rounds.
Jelena Ostapenko was hardly setting the world alight before she beat Anna Kalinskaya in the last 16. Ostapenko had a deep run at the Qatar Open earlier this year, but she’s been notoriously inconsistent since.
Ostapenko has won four of their seven previous meetings, but Cîrstea has won the last two matches in straight sets, including in Brisbane earlier this year.
Coco Gauff vs Mirra Andreeva
Coco Gauff has won all four of her matches against Mirra Andreeva. It’s been a complete mismatch historically, with Andreeva winning one set against Gauff, and that came back at the 2023 French Open.
This pair met in Madrid and Rome last year, with Gauff running out a straight-sets victor. The American dropped sets to Solana Sierra and Iva Jovic, however, and Andreeva cruised past Elise Mertens.
Andreeva has played some high-quality tennis since the season switched to Europe’s clay, but some of that can be put down to favourable matchups. It’s not often a player with such a distinct head-to-head advantage is available at evens.
