US Open Tennis: Men’s Quarter-Finals Preview (2025)

US Open Tennis 2025

With the 2025 US Open now at the quarter-finals stage, the battle to clinch the final Grand Slam tournament of the year is well and truly underway.

Note: this preview was published ahead of Jannik Sinner’s last-16 clash with Alexander Bublik. The number one seed is a 1/16 chance in the latest tennis betting market at William Hill and fans will be hoping to see the Italian in the quarter-finals.

US Open Men’s Outright Winner 2025:

Punters can bet on the outright US Open 2025 winner at William Hill and here is the current state of the market:

  • Jannik Sinner – 10/11
  • Carlos Alcaraz – 7/5
  • Novak Djokovic – 10/1
  • Taylor Fritz – 18/1
  • Alexander Bublik – 40/1
  • Alex De Minaur – 40/1
  • Lorenzo Musetti – 66/1
  • Felix Auger-Aliassime – 66/1
  • Andrey Rublev – 66/1
  • Jiri Lehecka – 80/1
  • Jaume Munar – 150/1
  • Leandro Riedi – 250/1

It is important to remember that the last-16 stage is still ongoing, but there are a couple of quarter-final matchups finalised and scheduled to take place on Tuesday. With that in mind, this preview focuses on those quarter-finals.

  • Jiri Lehecka vs Carlos Alcaraz
  • Novak Djokovic vs Taylor Fritz

Without further ado, here is my take on these matchups and what we can expect from both encounters…

Jiri Lehecka v Carlos Alcaraz

Lehecka and Alcaraz will compete for the fourth time on Tuesday, with the Spaniard leading the head-to-head series 2-1. He most recently ousted Lehecka at Queen’s Club earlier this summer, winning 2-1 in sets.

The Czech player has been performing admirably in recent months, reaching the last-16 stage in Washington, Toronto and Cincinnati while he is in the quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows.

Alcaraz poses a much greater test than any of Lehecka’s previous opponents in this tournament though, with the world number 21 yet to face anyone ranked in the top 58 players in the sport. Is there any chance he can defy sports betting markets against the five-time Grand Slam champion?

In a nutshell, it’s hard to envision an upset. Alcaraz has won 43 of his last 45 matches, losing just once – to Jannik Sinner in the 2025 Wimbledon final – since mid-April. In addition, he is yet to lose a set at this year’s US Open.

Lehecka is appearing in a Grand Slam quarter-final for only the second time in his career. He slumped to a straight-set defeat at the hands of Stefanos Tsitsipas at the 2023 Australian Open and another beating could be on the cards.

Prediction: Alcaraz to win 3-0 (8/13)

Novak Djokovic vs Taylor Fritz

Djokovic became the oldest man to reach the quarter-finals of every Grand Slam tournament in a single season after booking his place in the round by recording a straight sets victory over Jan-Lennard Struff.

Now, the 38-year-old Serbian and 24-time Grand Slam champion will attempt to keep his dream of winning number 25 alive when he takes on Fritz on Tuesday.

Fritz, the only American left in the men’s singles competition, has yet to get the better of Djokovic in 10 previous attempts but he will have the support of the home crowd behind him at Flushing Meadows.

He has dropped just two sets so far at this year’s tournament and confidence will be high ahead of Tuesday’s contest. He breezed past his opponent Tomas Machac in the round-of-16 to advance to this stage – but can he finally beat the Serbian?

Prediction: Djokovic to win 3-2 (5/1)
