Madrid Open Final: Tight Contest Expected But Will It Be Kostyuk Or Andreeva Lifting The Trophy?
A look ahead to the 2026 Madrid Open women’s final, with William Hill News tipster Sam Cox previewing the action ahead of Saturday’s contest.
An improbable Madrid Open final sees Marta Kostyuk face Mirra Andreeva. It’s only the second meeting between the players after their first matched up in Brisbane earlier this year where Kostyuk won 7-6, 6-3.
Andreeva won in Dubai and Indian Wells in 2025, but her record over the remainder of the season was largely underwhelming. This is the first time she’s been beyond the last eight at a WTA 1000 event since Indian Wells in 2025, though she’s notably won in Linz and Adelaide in 2026.
Marta Kostyuk vs Mirra Andreeva Odds:
- Mirra Andreeva – 4/6
- Marta Kostyuk – 6/5
This marks the high point of Kostyuk’s career. There’s no question she’s playing the best tennis of her life, which has rightly resulted in a debut WTA 1000 final appearance. The Ukrainian had only reached one WTA 1000 semi-final prior to this tournament, though she’s made the final in Brisbane and won in Rouen this year.
The nature of the draw, and Andreeva’s higher seed, means less has been asked of her so far. Kostyuk has demolished top-tier players with her powerful groundstrokes. Andreeva has quietly gone about her business, adding to an impressive clay-court record.
Experience counts for something in these finals. Kostyuk has hardly been fazed by the opponents she’s had to take on so far, but the chance to win an event of this magnitude is bound to have an impact on her play.
Andreeva has been there and done it, which should give her an advantage. Still, it doesn’t feel good betting against Kostyuk, who has looked like one of the best players in the world over her last few matches.
