France and Scheffler put William Hill on course for £200k World Cup-US Open hit

William Hill are facing a potential payout of more than £200,000 if France win the World Cup and Scottie Scheffler lands this week’s U.S. Open, with both currently attracting strong support in the outright markets.

France head World Cup 2026 betting

In William Hill’s World Cup 2026 outright book, France sit at the top of the market at 4/1. Spain follow at 5/1, with England at 13/2 and Portugal at 7/1, while Argentina are available at 8/1 and it is 10/1 bar those nations.

France remain the firm’s biggest outright liability ahead of the tournament.

Scheffler leads U.S. Open liabilities

On the golf side, Scheffler is 6/1 to win the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills and has attracted by far the largest total amount staked of any player in the field.

The biggest liabilities in William Hill’s outright book are currently headed by Tommy Fleetwood at 16/1 and Justin Rose at 40/1, with Aaron Rai next at 80/1 after his recent major breakthrough. Rory McIlroy at 11/1 and Scheffler at 6/1 complete the top five.

Given the strong British contingent in the market, William Hill make it 12/1 that all four men’s majors this year are won by a player from Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: “France and Scottie Scheffler are the two results we’re most wary of across our World Cup and U.S. Open outright books, and if both were to oblige we’d be looking at a hit of over £200,000.

“France have been a popular pick from early in the World Cup market, while Scheffler has drawn by far the most money of anyone at the U.S. Open because punters clearly feel 6/1 is a big price about the world number one.

“Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose and Aaron Rai top our U.S. Open liability list, so there’s also a strong British angle in the book, and that’s reflected in us going 12/1 that all four majors this year are won by a player from Great Britain and Northern Ireland.”
