Aintree Grand National - Betting Update
William Hill are sure that On His Own will start favourite for the 2013 John Smith's Grand National, after the latest declaration stage today saw 49 horses left in the big race.
Delving into the William Hill databases, the following information can be revealed.
The best backed horses in terms of number of bets in the Grand National have been
2. Imperial Commander
5. Cappa Bleu
There is a slightly different story when it comes to the liabilities in the William Hill field book - the five biggest losers are
1. On His Own
3. Imperial Commander
4. Cappa Bleu
It is worth noting that the biggest single bet in the race has come for the favourite, £8,000 on On His Own at 9/1.
Since it was announced that the former Gold Cup winner, Imperial Commander, was going for the race, he has been really well backed, with the biggest bet noted £500 each-way at 33/1.
As things stand, the nightmare result for William Hill on Saturday would be a win for the favourite On His Own with Seabass, Imperial Commander and Cappa Bleu.
William Hill spokesman, Richard Thomas, said;
"The build-up to the greatest race in the world stepped up a gear today with the five-day declarations, which saw 49 horses left in the big race. Our traders have revealed the key information from their ante-post fieldbooks, and it is no surprise that the worst result for William Hill will involve the Walsh family. Ruby is set to ride the favourite, On His Own, with sister Katie on Seabass. Old favourites Imperial Commander and Cappa Bleu are another pair that we hope fail to make the frame on Saturday."
