Bookies in the pink with Queen's hat result
The punters plunge on yellow was foiled today as Her Majesty arrived at Ascot for Ladies' Day in a bright pink hat.
It was a move that took both punters and bookies by surprise - the Queen had also worn a pink hat the day before - as yellow had been all rage in the build up to the prestigious race meeting. The result continued the tone of the previous day's racing, when not one favourite obliged the punters.
Hills spokeswoman Jennie Prest said, "We are tickled pink with this result. In previous years the punters appeared to have a crystal ball when it came to the Queen's hat, but this time we've escaped and can afford more than a couple of bottles of pink bubbly to celebrate."
William Hill are offering odds of 6-1 that the Queen wears a pink hat on Ladies Day next year, 2012.
