The Hong Kong Mile brings together last year's winner Good Ba Ba (stall 7) and former Breeders' Cup Mile winner Kip Deville (drawn 12).
The American grey chased home Golidkova at Santa Anita a month a go and looks in terrific condition, but may find the challenge of racing right-handed (all US courses are left-handed) a burden too much.
Another eye catcher has been the Michael Jarvis-trained Pressing (drawn 11) who looks terrific and there are some who consider that a mile is the right trip for this former Italian trained horse.
Pressing loves fast ground and landed Europe’s most valuable Mile race the Topkapi Trophy in Turkey in September.
Another HK hope is Egyptian Ra (drawn 13) who put up a terrific time when winning the International trial race a fortnight ago. Ridden by Felix Coetzee,(he is 2-2 on him) Egyptian Ra made most of an easy lead and quickened clear to score by 4 length, with Good Ba Ba back in third place but running better than the bare result suggests. He clocked the last two furlongs in 21.76 making up 4 lengths in the process.
One Thousand Guineas winner Natagora will love the fast ground too and is sure to be very close to the pace. All her runs since the Guineas have been against older horses and on easy ground and she could end the year on a high.
