  • FC Bayern have won their last seven competitive matches against the Wolves, scoring 21 goals in the process (an average of 3 per game) and conceding just two.
  • The Wolves are without a win against FCB since April 2009, when VfL thrashed Bayern 5-1 on their way to the title (D1, L10).
  • Wolfsburg have lost 19 of their 20 competitive away games against Bayern, the only time they have managed to avoid defeat in Munich was in December 2001 (3-3 draw in the Bundesliga).

  • FCB failed to win the league title in the seasons following the 2006 and 2010 World Cups. Bayern also haven't won the German Championship in any campaign following a World Cup win for Germany (1954, 1974 and 1990).
  • Robert Lewandowski, who will turn 26 years old one day before the game, is set for his Bundesliga debut for his new club. The Pole scored 74 Bundesliga goals across four years for BVB, the most of all players in that timeframe.
  • Thomas Müller scored his 100th competitive goal for Bayern in their DFB Cup game in Münster. The Germany international has been involved in eight goals in nine Bundesliga matches against Wolfsburg (5 goals + 3 assists).
  • World Cup participant Ivica Olic is set for his 200th Bundesliga game. 55 of those came for FC Bayern (13 goals), who he left for VfL in 2012.
  • Luiz Gustavo played 64 times in the Bundesliga for FCB (6 goals), before joining Wolfsburg one year ago. He is set to face several Bayern players who were part of the Germany team that inflicted a 7-1 World Cup semi-final defeat on him and the Selecao.
  • Jerome Boateng is suspended for the Bundesliga opener as he was sent off against Hamburg on matchday 33 last season and was suspended for two games - the suspension carries over to the new season.

Borussia Dortmund - Bayer 04 Leverkusen

  • Dortmund have lost just two of their last 14 meetings with Leverkusen (W7, D5), although they failed to win against Bayer 04 last season (1-0 loss at home, 2-2 away).
  • Leverkusen vs. Dortmund was the last late Saturday kick-off of the 2013/14 campaign; BVB had a positive record in that timeslot last season (W3, D1, L2) whilst Leverkusen are without a win in four Saturday evening games and won just one of their seven matches in that timeslot during 2013/14 (D2, L4).
  • Dortmund have won each of their last three Bundesliga openers, with matchday 1 last season producing a 4-0 win away at FC Augsburg.
  • Bayer 04 have lost the last two of their opening games of the season that have been away from home. However, their last away win on matchday 1 came in Dortmund (2010, 2-0 win).

  • Leverkusen's Heung-Min Son has scored five goals in five BL games against Dortmund, more than against any other team. Last season, the South Korean scored the only goal in Bayer 04's 1-0 win in the Signal Iduna Park.

Eintracht Frankfurt - SC Freiburg

  • Against no other current BL team have Frankfurt secured as many points on average as they have against Freiburg (1.5 per game). SCF and Gladbach are the only current Bundesliga sides that the Eagles have a positive head-to-head record against.
  • Thomas Schaaf will celebrate his Bundesliga debut in charge of Eintracht. Schaaf was last in the dugout at a BL game on 11th May 2013 for Bremen. His final game in charge of Werder was a 1-1 draw against Frankfurt.
  • Freiburg are entering their sixth Bundesliga campaign since being promoted in 2009. SCF had previously failed to spend more than four consecutive seasons in the top flight.
  • Frankfurt suffered a 6-1 loss at Hertha BSC on matchday 1 last season and consequently sent them to the bottom of the league. It was the heaviest opening-day defeat in their club history and was also the biggest ever win for a promoted side on the opening matchday.
  • The last time Freiburg won their first game of a Bundesliga season was in 2001, when they secured a 3-0 victory against a Bremen side coached by Thomas Schaaf. Since then, they have recorded four draws and three defeats on the opening day in the top flight.

  • Freiburg have collected just six of a possible 30 points from their last 10 away games. Their only victory in that run was a 4-1 win at Frankfurt in March.
  • Schaaf failed to win any of his last 12 Bundesliga games with Werder (D6, L6). His last win in the top flight was a 4-1 victory at Stuttgart on 9th February 2013. It's the longest winless run of his managerial career.
  • Matthias Ginter has joined Borussia Dortmund for 10 million euros, making him the second-most expensive sale in Freiburg's history. More money has only been paid for Papiss Demba Cisse (signed by Newcastle United for 12 million euros).
  • Marc-Oliver Kempf switched sides in the summer, the Germany U19 international made five Bundesliga appearances for Eintracht and all five games ended in defeat.

  • Hannover had to make do without a player due to suspension 15 times in 2013/14 (9 yellow-card suspensions, 6 sending-offs) - a league-high last season. Marcelo was shown a red card in the first round of the DFB Cup.
  • In Szabolcs Huszti (10 goals + 7 assists) and Mame Diouf (8 goals + 3 assists), the club's two top points-scorers from last season have left. The Hungarian and the Senegalese players were involved in the most goals for 96 during the 2012/13 campaign too.
  • Jens Keller's first BL game in the Schalke dugout was in January 2013 - during the spectacular 5-4 home win over Hannover.
  • New Hannover signing Joselu could make his 50th Bundesliga appearance. He has good memories of playing Schalke 04 last season, bagging a brace for Eintracht Frankfurt in a 3-3 draw.
  • Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has scored eight times in his last 10 Bundesliga games. His tally of 12 goals made him S04's top scorer last season despite only featuring in 18 games.

Hertha BSC - SV Werder Bremen

  • None of the last 15 BL meetings between the two sides have ended in a draw, with Werder winning 10 of them. The last time they shared the spoils was in a 1-1 draw in Berlin on 6th November 2004. Hertha have won three of their last four home games against Werder (1 defeat).
  • After being in sixth at the winter break, Hertha BSC placed 17th in a table representing the second half of the season with just 13 points. Only Hamburg have collected fewer points in 2014 (11 points).

  • Werder averaged just 41.9% possession in 2013/14 (only Braunschweig's figure was lower, 41.8%). Bremen had previously averaged more than 50% possession in every season since Opta started collecting detailed statistics in 2004/05.
  • With seven goals, Nils Petersen was Bremen's top scorer last season together with Aaron Hunt - the top scorers at every other club had more goals to their name.

  • The capital club will have to deal with the departure of top goalscorer Adrian Ramos (16 goals), who was involved in 53% of Hertha's goals in 2013/14 (21 of 40). Julian Schieber, who has joined from BVB, has been tasked with filling the Colombian's boots up front.
  • Jos Luhukay lost the 2010 cup semi-final to Bremen whilst with FC Augsburg (2-0). Apart from losing in his last meeting with the side in May 2014 (2-0), that is his only defeat to Werder (W2, D4).

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim - FC Augsburg

  • Only Stuttgart (30) dropped more points from winning positions than Hoffenheim (27) and Augsburg (21) last season.
  • Augsburg have won their last three Bundesliga games - four BL wins in a row would set a new club record. However, FCA have never recorded a victory on matchday 1 of a Bundesliga season before (D1, L2).
  • Hoffenheim have lost just one of their last 10 home games in the Bundesliga (4-2 against Mainz) and are unbeaten in their last four matches at home (W3, D1).
  • There were 142 goals in Hoffenheim's 34 Bundesliga games in 2013/14. The last time there were more goals in BL matches involving a single team was in 1983/84 (Offenbach: 154, Uerdingen: 145).

  • After finishing 16th with just 27 points, 2013/14 was Hamburger SV's worst ever Bundesliga campaign. It led to them playing in the relegation play-off for the first time (0-0 draw at home, 1-1 draw away against Fürth).
  • HSV conceded more goals last season than ever before in their Bundesliga history (75), also giving them the leakiest defence in the division.

  • Köln wasted 81 clear-cut chances (of 114) last season - more than any of the other teams had in total. They also missed five of their seven penalties in 2013/14, a league high since the 2. Bundesliga took on the 18-team format in 1994/95.
  • HSV chairman Dietmar Beiersdorfer ended his playing career at 1. FC Köln (16 Bundesliga games in the second half of 1995/96). His first BL goal led Hamburg to a 1-0 win against Köln on 15th November 1986.
  • Pierre-Michel Lasogga scored 10 of his 13 goals last season away from home and he only required 11 games for them. The striker also scored HSV's decisive away goal in the relegation play-off against Fürth. The former Hertha loanee signed a permanent deal with Hamburg this summer.

  • Against no other Bundesliga club have Borussia lost as many home games as they have against VfB (14). Stuttgart are also the only BL side that Gladbach have a negative home record against.
  • VfB ended the 2013/14 season with 32 points, equalling their worst ever record from 1974/75, which ended in relegation (converted to the 3-points-per-win system). 15th place was Stuttgart's worst finish for 13 years.

  • In total, Paderborn's squad has 202 games of Bundesliga experience and six top-flight goals. Mainz 05's Nikolce Noveski alone has made 247 appearances, scoring eight times.
  • This is Mainz's Kasper Hjulmand's first managerial post outside of Denmark. The Dane, who is Thomas Tuchel's successor, joined from FC Nordsjaelland, who he won the Danish Cup with in 2010 and 2011, as well as the league title in 2012.
  • Breitenreiter made 144 BL appearances for Unterhaching, Wolfsburg and HSV during his playing days, scoring 28 goals. That means he has more BL appearances and goals to his name than the whole of his squad that was promoted in 2013/14 (112 BL games, 5 goals).
