Felipe Massa devastated by victory in Brazil
Felipe Massa did all which was required of him in the thrilling final race of the 2008 F1 season after a heavy shower delayed the start.
He won, and gave the home fans the result they required.
He was followed over the line by Renault's Fernando Alonso who has closed this season in blistering form. Fancy Alonso for next year? This looks to be a tempting bet a 6/1.
Kimi Raikkonen, whose season has produced less points than was expected from the Ferrari No. 1 driver, collected the third spot on the podium.
But eyes were looking further back in the field, and to Lewis Hamilton's position. As rain played its part in the race, late tyre changes were required and after the field sorted itself, Hamilton was in the wrong position.
He wasn't in the required top five, but had returned to the track too far back to sit it out until the end of the race.
Ferrari, clearly were not aware of Glock's position change and as the ITV broadcast showed the Italians celebrating their Championship win, an outsider broke the bad news.
Lewis Hamilton had won the Championship.
David Coulthard's last race in an F1 cockpit was short lived, as the Scot spun on the first lap after a slight brush with Nakajima. Not the first contact between these two in the F1 format. Coultard had planned making the end of the race a smoke-out, with some doughnuts for the F1 audience who have watched him perform over the last ten years, but it wasn't to be. David Coulthard's race, season, and career in F1 had come to an end.
