Huddersfield no Piers for Wigan
Huddersfield Giants have had a great start to the season and will be full of confidence when they host Champions Wigan on Friday evening live on Sky Sports 1.
They thumped Bradford 50-16 at the Galpharn Stadium on Sunday and the bookies are so impressed with them that they make them 4/7 clear favourites to beat the Warriors.
Wigan were less impressive last weekend scraping past Hull FC at the DW Stadium in a match full of controversy. Joel Tomkins was shown a red card by referee Steve Ganson for striking Hull centre Kirk Yeaman, just minutes after being involved in a mass brawl involving the same player.
Tomkins received a two game ban for that incident and that has meant Wigan are in the rare position of being underdogs, they're 13/10 to get a win. The draw is 18/1.
Two of the Giants main men are Wigan born and former stars for the Warriors - Kevin Brown and Luke Robinson. William Hill continue to offer great 'Match Winner' special offers and for this one we have enhanced the price on either of those two Wiganers to score in a Huddersfield win to 11/5.
The price on Wigan of 13/10 is certainly worthy of consideration, they have three wins and a draw to their name and that draw was a result of complacency in their first game when they let an 18-0 lead slip against St Helens at Millenium Magic weekend.
They are still the strongest team in the league and should be good enough to overcome the loss of the Tomkins brothers. On the handicap betting you can back them with a four point start at 10/11 and that seems a very fair price indeed.
Both Andy Coley and George Carmont are set to make their 100th appearance in a Wigan shirt. Coley is 33/1 to score the first try of the game whilst Carmont is 14/1.
Jamie Simpson made an impressive debut for Huddersfield last weekend in their demolition of Bradford and he's 12/1 to opening the scoring in this one.
A win for the Warriors would see them leapfrog Huddersfield and go to the top of the table. They are still seen as clear favourites to win the Grand Final in October at 5/4 and odds on to finish 1st in the regular season. Huddersfield's fine start has put them into third favourites at 8/1 in the regular season and they're the same price to triumph at Old Trafford.
Overall, I think Wigan (13/10) offer good value to keep up their unbeaten record by getting the two points. For extra value you can back them at 5/2 to be winning at both half time and full time and 5/1 to win by 13 points or more.
