Tingle Creek Tips 2024: Runner-By-Runner Guide

Eight runners stand their ground in the Grade 1 Tingle Creek with Jonbon now 4/6 from 1/2 to land successive renewals.

William Hill’s traders feel that Quilixios and Edwardstone both have strong each-way claims against the favourite at that price, and with three places currently available punters will be looking for a value horse to try and topple the hot market leader.

So what are the chances of the short favourite and his seven rivals over this two mile feature?

Boothill (Harry Fry)

Boothill excelled in finishing a close second to Jonbon in the Grade 2 Shloer Chase at Cheltenham on Friday 15 November, and connections are keen to take their chance against him again.

The nine-year-old showed at Cheltenham that he is at home in that company, and his current odds of 12/1 look pretty decent for a horse that has proven he can run the Henderson star close.

Edwardstone (Alan King)

It feels like Alan King’s ten-year-old has been around forever in this division and after being brought down in his first ever chase, he’s never looked back.

Edwardstone won this race in 2022 and the year before that he landed the Grade One Henry VIII Novices’ Chase over this course and distance, so he is certainly a lover of the Sandown track.

If the predicted rain materialises on Saturday it will tune the track into a bit of a leveller, thus making Jonbon vulnerable to a challenger or two.

Jonbon (Nicky Henderson)

Henderson would love to see Jonbon become the first horse since Kauto Star to claim back-to-back victories in the Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown.

Just like last season, Jonbon will be looking to follow up a comeback victory in the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham and register his eighth Grade 1 victory. He will certainly be a tough nut to crack.

JPR One (Joe Tizzard)

JPR One landed the Haldon Gold Cup on his first start out of novice company and now Tizzard has been brave enough to throw him in against the very best very early in the season.

As the old saying goes “you’ve got to be in it to win it”.

Master Chewy (Nigel Twiston-Davies)

Chewy proved himself a very smart novice last season and gave Found A Fifty a fright at Aintree, with the pair coming well clear.

After an encouraging comeback effort at Ascot last month, he’s entitled to be on the premises.

Quilixios (Henry de Bromhead)

The 2021 Triumph Hurdle winner missed the whole of the 2022/23 campaign through injury and his results were inconsistent last season after his comeback.

However he did boss Marine Nationale in the Grade 3 Barberstown Castle Chase in early November, and will come on heaps for that effort.

Solness (Joseph O’Brien)

Joseph O’Brien’s Solness is a big price but he is upbeat about his horse’s chances at Sandown.

He showed battling qualities in the Fortria at Navan last time out, but I suspect that any sign of rain will be his undoing.

Unexpected Party (Dan Skelton)

There ain’t no party like an unexpected party, but its highly improbable connections will be reaching for the balloons and streamers this Saturday.

The nine-year-old was well held by Jonbon last time out and will be again.

Tingle Creek Prediction:

  1. Jonbon
  2. Quilixios
  3. Boothill
