AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am preview: Schel looks a shore bet at Pebble

| BY News Team

The PGA Tour is well and truly back to its best this week for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, with a star-studded field heading to California.

This tournament’s Signature Event status sees it offer a $20,000,000 purse as well as 700 FedExCup points up for grabs. That has attracted the strongest field we’ve seen on the Tour so far in 2025, making it a very exciting prospect.

It’s another multi-course event this week with the iconic Pebble Beach Golf Links partnering with Spyglass Hill Golf Course. As was the case last week, both courses will be played during the first two rounds, before all 80 players return for another two rounds at Pebble Beach over the weekend.

Scottie Scheffler is back after a Christmas-dinner-related hand injury and it’s no surprise to see him at the head of the market, although we’re happy to look elsewhere as he gets rid of any festive period rust.

The bigger names towards the top of the market offer some value lower down, where we think we’ve found a couple at nice prices to hopefully get us back to winning ways.

Ludvig Åberg 18/1

We’re steering clear of market leaders Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy here, with our shortest price selection coming by way of Ludvig Åberg, who sits fifth in the market at 18/1.

As debuts go, it doesn’t get much better than the Swede’s first time out at Pebble Beach as he was the runner-up in this tournament last year, finishing just one shot back from Wyndham Clark as extreme weather conditions denied him the chance to overturn that deficit via a fourth round cancellation.

It hasn’t taken the 25-year-old long to get back into his stride this year, starting off with a T5 finish at The Sentry, before putting in a decent enough performance at the Farmers Insurance Open last week. His final round score of 79 would be cause for concern had the conditions not meant that almost every player struggled on Sunday.

He’ll no doubt return here with a fire in his belly after last year’s disappointment. Improving on that result to land a second Tour title in as many full seasons will be the main aim on his mind, but a finish in the 7 places available with William Hill certainly wouldn’t be a bad result.

Billy Horschel 110/1

For our second selection we take a swing on a player at the bigger prices, with a fair few big names finding themselves lower down the pecking order due to the stacked field on show here.

Despite the array of talent taking to Pebble Beach, Horschel looks at least a tad overpriced at 110/1. He’s proven himself as a man who thrives in testing conditions, taking the challenges of Links golf in his stride. He hasn’t necessarily transferred those abilities to this tournament in the past, but he hasn’t played here since 2018 and he’s a different player now.

In the last year he’s been a runner-up at the Open, recorded seven top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour, won the Corales Puntacana Championship and the BMW PGA Championship, among a host of other strong performances.

There’s no doubting his ability to finish in the 7 places available with William Hill here, and at such a big price that would provide a nice enough return.
