William Hill can reveal that Jack Draper is their second biggest liability at Wimbledon this year and is Britain’s most likely winner at SW19 since 2017.

The British Men’s Number One played promisingly last week at Queen’s before being knocked out in the semi-finals by the tournament’s subsequent runner-up, Jiri Lehecka.

That hasn’t stopped punters’ faith in Draper, though, as he looks set to be the shortest-priced British Men’s Singles contender at 8/1 since Sir Andy Murray in 2017, where the two-time winner was a 7/2 shot before a ball was served.

Draper now ranks second in William Hill’s liabilities for Wimbledon, and the man who beat him last week, Lehecka, has seen his Wimbledon odds plummet into 33/1 from 80/1. The man who defeated him in Sunday’s final, Carlos Alcaraz, is a 6/4 shot to win his third SW19 title in three years.

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “We’re only days out from the start of Wimbledon and last week’s action at Queen’s has really whet the appetite for what’s to come at SW19. Jack Draper didn’t have things entirely his own way last week but did well to reach the semis despite a bout of tonsilitis.

“It’s no surprise that the British public are keen to back their number one-ranked player and next week’s likely fourth seed is our second worst liability in our Gentlemen’s Wimbledon Singles market behind Alexander Bublik.

“Draper is an 8/1 shot to lift the trophy on Sunday 13th July, and that makes him the most likely British winner of the Men’s Singles since the great Sir Andy Murray in 2017, who was 7/2 pre-tournament.

“Carlos Alcaraz was at his imperious best at Queen’s last week and he is unsurprisingly a short 6/4 joint-favourite, alongside Jannik Sinner, to win the tournament. The Spanish defending champion aims to land a hat-trick of Wimbledon titles and could be very hard to beat, but keep an eye on the man he defeated at Queen’s on Sunday.

“Jiri Lehecka was a huge 80/1 shot to win Wimbledon pre-Queen’s, but after his heroic efforts, he’s a 33/1 shot, and could be one at a bigger price that punters could latch onto after a fine showing on British grass already this season.”
