Named after Sam Ryder almost a hundred years ago, the Ryder Cup is now golf’s most eagerly awaited team event, consistently delivering iconic moments to a global audience.

With the 2025 Ryder Cup edging closer, we look back at past winners and previous results of this famous golf competition.

History Of The Ryder Cup

When the event first began in 1927, the tournament was the United States versus Great Britain, which continued right up until 1971.

Then for the next four events, Great Britain were joined by Ireland, and from 1979 onwards, the team includes the whole of Europe.
