Ryder Cup 2025: Five Players To Watch For Team USA

Ryder Cup 2025

Steve Mullington looks at Team USA ahead of this year’s Ryder Cup, with five standout players to follow throughout the tournament.

Seven members of the 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup Team — Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Harris English, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, and Patrick Cantlay — were all part of the record breaking US victory at Whistling Straits in 2021, so they will come into the competition full of confidence.

Ryder Cup 2025 – Top USA Points Scorer Odds:

Punters can bet on the Team USA top points scorer at the 2025 Ryder Cup with William Hill and here is the current state of the market:

  • Scottie Scheffler (3/1)
  • Bryson DeChambeau (5/1)
  • Xander Schauffele (13/2)
  • Patrick Cantlay (15/2)
  • Cameron Young (10/1)
  • Russell Henley (10/1)
  • Collin Morikawa (11/1)
  • Justin Thomas (11/1)
  • Sam Burns (11/1)
  • Ben Griffin (16/1)
  • Harris English (20/1)
  • J.J. Spaun (25/1)

Just like the European team, there are likely to be five key players in the US squad that will either make or break the competition. Let’s take a look at them:

Scottie Scheffler – 2 appearances (Won 2, Lost 2, Halved 3)

When Steve Stricker opted to make 25-year-old Scottie Scheffler his final captain’s pick in 2021, it was regarded as a controversial move as the Texan had not yet won on the PGA Tour.

Fast forward a few years, and the 2-0-1man at Whistling Straits has now won 19 times on the PGA Tour, four of them in major championships. He’s finished outside the top 10 in a major just four times and is very much the current No.1 player in the world.

If he performs at the top level at Bethpage, then he will become the natural leader of the whole team, and they will all feed off his confidence.

Bryson DeChambeau – 2 appearances (Won 2, Lost 3, Halved 1)

Following a disappointing Ryder Cup debut in 2018 at Le Golf National in France, DeChambeau bounced back at Whistling Straits in 2021, securing a 2-0-1 record for the victorious U.S. team.

DeChambeau has racked up nine total PGA Tour victories, and three wins in the LIV Golf League, but his lack of golf over the last weeks is a slight worry as he is very much a momentum man, and a break in playing isn’t exactly the ideal preparation.

Xander Schauffele – 2 appearances (Won 4, Lost 4, Halved 0)

Last year Schauffele won two majors. This year however, Xander hasn’t finished in the top five once, so there’s a serious question mark about his form coming into the Ryder Cup.

Schauffele is the kind of player though, who could easily put his poor season behind him, and play a blinder at Bethpage, but again he’s a risky proposition, and one the Europeans would love to exploit.

Patrick Cantlay – 2 appearances (Won 5, Lost 2, Halved 1)

Cantlay finished tied for third in the 2019 PGA Championship at Bethpage Black, so he will certainly know his way around the course, which makes him an attractive prospect at odds of 15/2 to be the USA’s top points scorer.

Cantlay posted a 3-0-1 record at Whistling Straits, finishing the joint leading point scorer for the victorious US team, and followed that up with a 2-2-0 performance in 2023 at Marco Simone in Italy, which bodes well for this renewal of the Cup.

Cameron Young – Rookie

A native New Yorker, Young became the first-ever amateur to win the New York State Open with a 2017 win at Bethpage Black, so his captain may see him as something as an home banker when making his daily picks.

Arguably among the most in-form Ryder Cup players as the tournament arrives, Young had a season to remember on the PGA Tour, with the highlight being his victory in the Wyndham Championship.
