Oscars 2026: One Battle After Another tipped for big awards haul

With the 98th Academy Awards just days away, leading bookmaker William Hill have priced up how many Oscars the night’s biggest films could take home, with One Battle After Another tipped for a big sweep of awards.

The movie heads into the ceremony as one of the most decorated films of the year and is widely tipped to perform strongly in categories such as Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay, alongside acting nominations for stars including Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn.

How many awards will One Battle After Another win?

  • Over 5.5 – 4/5
  • Under 5.5 – 10/11

The Paul Thomas Anderson epic is 4/5 to win at least six Oscars from its 13 nominations, and a longer 10/11 to claim five or fewer.

However, it faces stiff competition from Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, which leads this year’s nominations with a record 16 nods, and is expected to challenge in several major categories including Best Picture and Best Actor for odds-on favourite Michael B. Jordan.

How many awards will Sinners win?

  • Over 4.5 – 4/5
  • Under 4.5 – 10/11

Despite that strong nomination tally, William Hill believe Sinners could end up with a slightly smaller share of the trophies on the night, pricing four or fewer awards at 4/5.

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “One Battle After Another has been the film to beat all awards season, and the betting suggests it could cap things off with a huge night at the Oscars.

“We make it 4/5 to win at least six awards, which would underline the dominance it’s shown over the past few months and finally deliver Paul Thomas Anderson the Oscar success many feel he’s long deserved.

“Sinners has racked up a record number of nominations and could still spring a surprise in some of the big categories, but the market slightly favours it taking home fewer awards than its major rival, One Battle After Another.”
