England vs India First ODI 2026: Predictions, Odds & Betting Tips

| BY News Team

England take on India on Tuesday in first of a three-match ODI series, and William Hill News are on hand to preview the clash.

England made light work of the visitors in the shorter format, taking last week’s five-match series 4-0, with the first game being abandoned due to rain.

The 50-over side will hope to follow in their footsteps and put on an equally dominant display, but India will surely head into this format seeking revenge.

The first match takes place at Edgbaston, where a number of the T20 stars will be back in action. Harry Brook captains the side, while Jos Buttler, Jacob Bethell, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, and the entire bowling attack from the T20 series returns here.

There are some big changes in store for India and the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli can only be seen as a positive. Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul and captain Shubman Gill complete a total of five big-name inclusions which should help them regain their form.

Prediction – England to win – 4/5

All momentum is behind the home side here and the fact a large majority of the side remains the same, while the addition of Ben Duckett and Joe Root won’t do England’s batting line up any harm. With the two teams closely matched in the betting – England 4/5 and India Evens – it’s hard to look past the hosts.

England 4/5

England went from strength to strength throughout the last T20I series and their total of 257 runs in the final match showed just how lethal they can be with the bat. Now add Joe Root to the mix, and things look very scary for India.

The fairytale story at play here is Jos Buttler playing his 200th ODI for England as he closes in on Eoin Morgan’s record of 225. Buttler is 5/1 to be his side’s top scorer on what would be the perfect occasion for him to record another monster score.

While the batters stole the show, England’s seam bowler quietly went about their work and had a big part to play in limiting India’s scoring. Expect them to be at the forefront of the action again, with Josh Tongue the value play in England’s top bowler market at 4/1.

India EVS

Revenge is the main word on India’s mind after they were thrashed 4-0 in the T20I series and embarrassed on occasions as England seemed to be able to hit their bowlers wherever they pleased.

They’ll come here with a renewed ambition and a refreshed squad, which includes no shortage of star names. Top of that pile on reputation is Virat Kohli, who will be keen to add to his 14,797 ODI runs as he approaches yet another run-scoring landmark. He looks a strong bet at 5/2 to be India’s top scorer.

India’s bowlers took a real battering in the T20I series and will want to hit back here. Jasprit Bumrah is undeniably one of the greatest bowlers we’ve ever seen and his return will spark no end of life back into their bowling attack. He can be taken at 11/5 to be India’s top bowler.“
