Madrid Grand Prix Predictions 2026: 4/1 Selection Among Best Bets For Inaugural Race

It’s a new circuit for Formula One this weekend, with championship leader Kimi Antonelli sitting atop the Spanish Grand Prix betting.

Antonelli extended his lead thanks to an extraordinary win from 19th on the grid at Monza last weekend. George Russell was left as a sitting duck in the closing laps and had to settle for second, with Max Verstappen rounding out the podium.

What To Expect from Madrid

Described as “Jeddah on steroids” by Formula 3 drivers, the Madring is a very high-speed street circuit that will challenge drivers this weekend. There’s some debate over whether there are 22 or 24 corners, as a couple are labelled 5A and 20A.

There aren’t many overtaking zones and even fewer straights. Watch out for close combat going into the fifth corner – it’s a golden opportunity to make a move, but it’s too tight for two cars to get through alongside each other.

Drivers will experience considerable G-forces through a massive, banked corner, dubbed La Monumental. Carlos Sainz Jr., an ambassador for the circuit, has compared it to Jeddah and Baku. Red flags and safety cars are seemingly inevitable.

Who Should This Suit?

Avoiding weekend-ending crashes is the first target for drivers. Given how difficult overtaking will be, a shunt in qualifying could completely derail a driver’s chances.

Mercedes’ power advantage shouldn’t be as significant here due to the lack of straights, so McLaren and Ferrari can expect to be closer to the Silver Arrows than they were at Monza.

The number of corners might favour the McLarens, which won in Hungary and the Netherlands. Friday practice will be pivotal this weekend, though.

Every team is going into this weekend facing a huge number of unknowns, including Ferrari, despite their filming day at the circuit earlier this year.

We simply don’t know how much tyre degradation will be a factor on a hot Madrid day, nor will the teams know how accurate their projections are until they conduct some long runs on Friday.

McLaren’s only double podium this season came at Miami. Norris, though, was excellent in Hungary and the Netherlands. The papaya cars weren’t as competitive as they hoped at Monza, but they remain quick through the corners and both cars finished ahead of Lewis Hamilton last time out.

Nico Hülkenberg earned his first points of the season in Hungary and added to his tally at Zandvoort. The experience of the German should stand him in good stead as the grid adjusts to a new track. Gabriel Bortoleto’s points finishes at Silverstone and Spa were also encouraging for Audi, as Pirelli believes degradation should be similar at the Madring.

Pairing Hülkenberg to get a points finish with Norris making the podium and a safety car appearance is great value in the Your Odds section at William Hill.

Oscar Piastri will benefit if the McLaren is as competitive as it was in the Netherlands. He’s finished in the top six in the last three races he’s completed. Max Verstappen’s Red Bull was second behind Norris in Hungary, and he’s been in the top six in every race he’s finished since Red Bull got their act together in Canada.
