Fury v Chisora trilogy fight preview: Gypsy King set to extend his reign?

| BY News Team

This Saturday night Tyson Fury returns to the ring to face off against an old rival in Derek Chisora for the third time. This is set to be an electric display and a battle of wills between two veteran heavyweights, with the action going down at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London.

We preview the best of the action below.

Fury looks to extend his unbeaten career

Tyson Fury is currently the WBC heavyweight world champion. The ‘Gypsy King’ is also undefeated as a professional boxer, boasting a record of 32-0-1. The one draw on his record was from his original fight in the Deontay Wilder trilogy, with Fury going on to win both of the following bouts.

The Gypsy King has fought Chisora before, once in 2011 when he won by unanimous decision, and then again in 2014 when he won by stoppage. If these past two bouts are anything to go by, it should be an easy night for Fury.

Fury’s odds ahead of the fight are 1/16 to win and 1/3 to win by KO/TKO. Considering the calibre of opponents Fury has faced, even earlier this year with a convincing win over Dillian Whyte, the odds are unsurprising.

What some fans may be surprised by is that Fury is still fighting at all, having announced his retirement from boxing earlier this year. This is also set to be Fury’s most expensive fight, with reports stating that it will cost nearly £27 per PPV, more than any of his previous bouts.

The bookmakers see this fight as unlikely to go the distance, which makes sense considering 23 of Fury’s 33 wins have come by stoppage. The current price on the fight going to the judge’s scorecards is 5/2.

Chisora to produce the upset?

Derek Chisora is a British boxer with a professional record of 33-12-0. Chisora has only challenged for a world title once before when he faced off against Vitali Klitschko in 2012 for the same WBC heavyweight belt.

‘Del Boy’ is 10/1 to win by any method and comes into this fight off the back of a win earlier this year against Kubrat Pulev, who held a record of 29-2 before that. The victory came from the judges’ scorecards, a split decision with two judges in favour of Chisora. If you fancy him to out point Fury too, Chisora to win by decision is priced at 22/1.

The 38-year-old has also faced the top calibre of heavyweights over the years with fights against David Haye, Vitali Klitschko and Dillian Whyte. More recently, prior to his last win, Chisora lost to Oleksandr Usyk and then twice to Joseph Parker.

What would it take for Chisora to pull off the upset? A lot. Although Chisora has held a couple of regional titles, challenging a still undefeated Fury towards the end of his career is a move which has been widely criticised for being too one-sided, with most critics seeing no path to victory for Del Boy.

If you do fancy the underdog, there are enhanced odds on Fury being knocked down within the first six rounds, previously priced at 4/1, now enhanced to 5/1. It is important to remember that anything can happen in the ring, especially in the heavyweight division.
