Curragh Tips Sunday: Best Bets On Irish 1000 Guineas Day
It’s another packed schedule at the Curragh on Sunday with eight more races, including the Tattersalls Gold Cup (3.55pm) and the Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas (4.30pm).
Our horse racing expert Steven Mullington makes a selection for the readers in every race:
1.45 – 6f Fillies Maiden
Joseph O’Brien knows how to ready one for its debut, which makes GREEN EMPRESS very interesting in the double green colours of Munir and Souede.
The Saxon Warrior-filly is well bred and could potentially go off a nice price too.
2.15 – 6f Marble Hill Stakes (Group 3)
Ryan Moore has opted to ride GREAT BARRIER REEF (NAP) in this Group 3, so I’m sure the horse racing betting sharks will send him off a firm favourite.
A winner here on April 19, the No Nay Never-colt should follow up today.
2.45 – 1m Fillies Handicap
In form jockey Nicola Burns is an interesting booking for Ger Lyons aboard PREVALENCE for the Juddmonte Stud.
A close third over seven furlongs here on May 4, its logical to step her up a little bit here on her return.
3.20 – 1m Lanwades Stud Stakes (Group 2)
At odds of around 14/1 in our sports betting for this Group 2, the British challenger FRANCOPHONE is well worth an each-way flutter.
A strong competitor at Listed level, the mare deserves another shot in this company and can go well.
3.55 – 1m2½f Tattersalls Gold Cup (Group 1)
BAY CITY ROLLER (NB) was a close-up second behind Lambourn at Chester and a repeat of that performance would see the New Bay-colt challenge for the silverware this afternoon.
Trainer George Scott has a 33% strike rate with his horses over the past fortnight, so the omens are good for his Victorious Forever connections.
4.30 – 1m Irish 1,000 Guineas (Group 1)
It’s very difficult to see past True Love here, but those looking for a lively each-way poke against the favourite should perhaps give AMERICA QUEEN a go.
Just touched off by Azleet in the Nell Gywn Stakes at Newmarket, the grey filly can hold her own in this company.
5.05 – 1m Handicap
HEXAGONAL shaped well when last seen at Ballinrobe, just missing out in the closing stages to Lough Leane.
This ever so slight drop in distance could well be the deal breaker in this competitive handicap.
5.40 – 1m6f Handicap
Oisin Murphy and Joseph O’Brien team up in the lucky last with the four-year-old DELTA, who holds a fighting chance of making the podium spots in this field.
The ground was totally against him at Listowel, but it will certainly be in his favour on Sunday.
