Gavin Cromwell’s William Hill blog: Porter can floor them in the Stayers’

Thursday, Cheltenham

Letsbeclearaboutit kicks the day off in the Turners (1.30pm). We had the option to go to the Plate but he would’ve been top-weight so we decided against it. The Drinmore form is working out well after Found A Fifty ran well in the Arkle. Our lad didn’t stay the three miles the last day when he was against Embassy Gardens at Naas, but I think this could be his trip so hopefully he has a good chance. He’s been in form at home so he definitely has a shot at the minor places.

I think that Flooring Porter can run really well in the Stayers’ Hurdle (3.30pm). He was fourth last year only being beaten three and a half lengths. He had a very interrupted preparation last year, standing in his box for a month between Christmas and Cheltenham. This time round has been much more positive, he’s had a couple of schooling sessions recently and it’s really lit him up. It’s shown how much he loves jumping hurdles and I’m really looking forward to seeing him out there.

Inothewayyourthiunkin runs in the Kim Muir (5.30pm). He’s in there at the very top carrying 12st with Derek (O’Connor) on board. Hopefully he’s the class horse in the race and he’s been in great form so you would like to think he’ll be right in the frame. He’s never gone this trip before but we think he will be fine and take this challenge on.

Friday, Cheltenham

We kick Friday off with Encanto Bruno in the County Hurdle (2.10pm). He had the option of the Martin Pipe but we’ve sided with the County. He also comes into this in some good form, and the better the ground the better his chances. He has Cheltenham form having won around the track, which is a big positive, and this is definitely worth the roll of the dice.

Limerick Lace has a very good chance in the Mares’ Chase (4.50pm). The soft ground won’t be a problem to her, and she is coming into this off the back of a good win. I’d say the softer the ground the better for her as she was second in the Troytown at Navan on soft to heavy ground. She proved that she can stay the distance on this ground.

We also have Brides Hill in the same race. She would probably want the ground going the other way and it to dry up a bit by Friday. We don’t know what the ground is going to do – there is a bit of a drying wind in the air so we will see. She is also going into this in good form, off the back of a few good wins.
