Miami Grand Prix preview: Sergio Perez to continue title charge

| BY News Team

After what was a slightly underwhelming weekend in Baku the drivers travel to Miami, and after last year’s debut success the action returns to the Miami International Autodrome.

With Red Bull dominating once again, all eyes are on the battle at the top of the Drivers’ Championship, while the midfield teams will be looking to pick up crucial points in the Constructors Championship.

We preview the action below.

The frontrunners

As Red Bull continue to dominate the grid there is no doubt that they will be taking home yet another Constructors Championship, but the real question lies in which of their drivers will come out on top individually.

Max Verstappen has been Red Bull’s number one driver for the past few years, picking up two championships, but Sergio Perez does not look prepared to sit back and watch his teammate walk to another championship.

After two races, both drivers have two wins and Verstappen sits atop the Drivers’ Championship leaderboard and will hope to stay there over the weekend as he heads to Miami as 4/9 favourite for the victory.

Despite being behind Verstappen in the individual rankings, Perez believes he can challenge for the title and the 11/4 second favourite will look to make a serious statement of intent in Miami.

Charles Leclerc scored his and Ferrari’s first podium of the season and the Monégasque driver will hope for a return to last season’s form at 12/1 for the win. With Ferrari needing all the points they can get in the Constructors’, a podium finish for Leclerc at 5/4 would go some way to kickstarting their season.

Fernando Alonso has been a consistent podium finisher this season with three third-place finishes, as well as a fourth-place last week. The Spaniard has been rejuvenated in this season’s Aston Martin car and at 10/11 he will be hoping to be back on the podium in Miami.

The Midfield

Yuki Tsunoda has been one of the most consistent performers amongst the midfield drivers, with two tenth place finishes and two eleventh place finishes, all the more impressive in an Alpha Tauri car considered to be one of the weakest on the grid. The young driver is 7/4 to put more points on the board for a struggling Alpha Tauri team.

George Russell has had a somewhat underwhelming season so far, sitting seventh in the Drivers’ Championship. The Brit’s best performance of the season came in Saudi Arabia where he finished in fourth place, ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton. When finishing the race Russell has been in the points every time and looks set to continue that at 1/4 to put more points on the board for Mercedes. He is yet to touch the podium this season and is 9/2 to finish in the top three in Miami.

Lance Stroll is another who has finished just outside the podium places in fourth when he produces a magnificent drive in Australia, making the most of an ever-reducing field in the race. Stroll also has a sixth-place finish to his name this season and is 6/5 to do so again, and the Canadian looks set to rack up more points at 4/11 to finish inside the top 10.
