Sinner, Scheffler & Bayern Headline May 2026 Sports Calendar
May is one of the standout months on the sporting calendar for William Hill News, and 2026 is no different.
Between the clay‑court grind of Roland‑Garros, the drama of the Champions League finals and a major championship at Valhalla, there are outright betting stories everywhere you look – and William Hill has already nailed its colours to the mast for each of the biggest events.
Men’s French Open – Sinner the man to beat
We start in Paris, where the Men’s French Open will dominate the back half of May. William Hill’s outright market has a very clear favourite: Jannik Sinner sits at 2/5 to win the title, a price which shows just how strongly traders rate his game on clay right now.
At those odds, Sinner is more likely to win than not, even in a 128‑man Grand Slam draw.
Behind him, Alexander Zverev is the closest challenger at 6/1. The German has long been touted as a future Roland‑Garros champion, and this price suggests he’s seen as the main danger if Sinner slips.
Novak Djokovic is out at 10/1, still firmly among the contenders, but no longer the heavy favourite he once was on every surface.
There’s then a clutch of emerging names all priced at 16/1: Lorenzo Musetti, Arthur Fils and Joao Fonseca.
Musetti’s flair and single‑handed backhand always make him a popular dark horse, Fils will have the full force of the Parisian crowd behind him as home hope, and Fonseca is the latest teenage prodigy grabbing attention on tour.
UEFA Champions League – Bayern lead a four‑team race
By the end of May we’ll also know the winners of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League, and the market has boiled down to a tight four‑runner contest.
Bayern Munich head the betting at 13/8, reflecting their combination of European pedigree, squad depth and the fact they’ve navigated the toughest stages of the competition without ever really looking in serious trouble – beating Real Madrid in the process.
Arsenal are close behind at 2/1 as they chase a first Champions League crown. Mikel Arteta’s side are very close to Bayern in terms of strength – not quite joint‑favourites, but not far off either. Paris Saint‑Germain sit just a fraction longer at 5/2, still firmly in the mix as they face off against Munich in the semi-finals.
Rounding out the field are Atletico Madrid at 7/1. Diego Simeone’s men are always awkward opposition in knockout football, and that bigger price reflects more their perceived ceiling than their ability to make life miserable for Arsenal over two legs.
USPGA Championship – Scheffler on top again
On the golf side, May brings the 2026 USPGA Championship, and once again Scottie Scheffler finds himself at the top of the outright market. William Hill have the world number one at 7/2 to win at Valhalla, a short quote in a 156‑man major field.
Rory McIlroy is next in line at 13/2 as he chases a second major championship this year after defending his Green Jacket at Augusta National.
Bryson DeChambeau is a 10/1 chance, while Jon Rahm can be backed at 12/1, but both will hope for better performances than what they gave at the Masters.
Xander Schauffele is 16/1, with Matt Fitzpatrick available at 20/1 after a hot run of form at the Valspar and the Heritage.
