French Open third round betting tips: Norrie to come unstuck

| BY News Team

William Hill have selected three French Open betting tips for the men’s and women’s third round.

Among the predictions are an early exit for the British number one, a comfortable win for the Spanish sensation, and a continuance of dominance from the Women’s number one.

French Open betting tips: Lorenzo Musetti to beat Cameron Norrie 3-2 @ 5/1

At just 21 years-old Lorenzo Musetti has had the best year of his career so far in 2023. The young Italian helped Italy to the Final of the United Cup at the very start of the year and the other successes have followed. He reached just his second masters quarter-final at the Monte Carlo Open where he defeated World number three Novak Djokovic.

Cameron Norrie is carrying the torch for British Tennis at the moment but he hasn’t had the clay-season he would have hoped for. He did make it to the semi-finals at the Lyon Open but that is the closest he has come to clay court success in recent months. He did manage to win the Rio Open final but that was back in February and against much less formidable opponents, other than in the final where he defeated Carlos Alcaraz.

With Musetti already having one win over Norrie this season he is favourite to defeat the Brit here at 4/7.

With their last match going to a third set at the Barcelona Open, where the matches are best of three sets, and Musetti coming out the 2-1 victor, expect another long, hard-fought contest with Musetti’s form just giving him the edge this time around.

French Open betting tips: Carlos Alcaraz to beat Denis Shapovalov and over 33.5 games @ 11/4

Carlos Alcaraz would be favourite to beat most players at the French Open as he is favourite to win the tournament outright at 6/5. He has had a stellar year so far, winning both the Madrid and Barcelona Open in the build up to this tournament, but the Spaniard hasn’t been properly tested so far in the French Open this year having not yet played anyone inside the top 95.

Denis Shapovalov is another relatively young player at 24 years-old but he is still yet to properly assert himself on the tour. He hasn’t won on the ATP Tour this year, and exited at the third round of the Australian Open earlier this year.

Shapovalov has had some testing games so far this year, and his two previous French Open matches have gone to five and four sets respectively. The Canadian has tended to have hard-fought sets as well as matches, averaging over 9.8 games per set in his last three tournaments.

Although Alcaraz will almost definitely come out victorious in this one, Shapovalov’s defiant style and his ability to drag sets out makes a Carlos Alcaraz win in over 33.5 games look like a solid value punt.

French Open betting tips: Elena Rybakina to beat Sara Sorribes Tormo and under 19.5 games @ 8/11

One of our shorter selections sees Elena Rybakina take on 132nd ranked Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo, in what looks to be a straightforward affair for the World number four.

23-year-old Rybakina, despite her age, is one of the most experienced players on the women’s circuit and already has a Grand Slam title under her belt after winning Wimbledon last year. She has won both her games at this year’s French Open fairly comfortably, averaging just 18 games per match.

After a six-month break from tennis Tormo’s ranking has dropped to 132 and she only qualified for the French Open via the protected ranking system. The Spaniard eased through the second round winning 6-4 6-1 but this could be one step too far.

Rybakina is playing some of her best tennis this year and after her third-round exit in Paris last year she will be hoping to go further this year and breeze through this round in under 19.5, as she has in previous rounds.
