Bundesliga Opta Facts | 11 - 13 April

FC Schalke 04 v Eintracht Frankfurt

  • Frankfurt have won just one of their last 15 Bundesliga games against Schalke (D5 L9). However, Eintracht are unbeaten in their last three meetings with S04 (1-0 win April 2013 and two draws, including a 3-3 draw earlier in the season).
  • Eintracht haven't won at Schalke since a 3-2 victory in May 1999. They have recorded four draws and six defeats in their 10 trips there since then.
  • Schalke have collected 25 of a possible 27 points at home since a 3-1 loss to BVB at the end of October (W8 D1). They have kept a clean sheet in six of those nine games.
  • Veh's side have won three of their last four games, with their only defeat in that timeframe a 2-1 loss to Wolfsburg. They are now eight points clear of the relegation zone.
  • Schalke (27) have collected the second most points since the winter break after Bayern (31). Frankfurt (20) sit fifth in a table representing the second half of the season.
  • Alexander Meier is set for his 300th competitive game for Frankfurt. The 31-year-old has scored 98 goals in 299 appearances for the Eagles.
  • Ralf Fährmann was a Frankfurt player from 2009-11 and made 18 Bundesliga appearances for them. Schalke's number one is second in the league this season in terms of save percentage, with an impressive 81.3% (Manuel Neuer: 82.1%).
  • Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has scored eight of Schalke's last 14 goals. Only Nürnberg's Josip Drmic (10) has scored more goals since the winter break than the Dutchman (9).
  • Joselu has scored five goals in his last five Bundesliga games and is Frankfurt's top scorer with eight goals. His teammate Stefan Aigner is also in good form, having been involved in five of the Eagles' last seven goals (1 goal, 4 assists).
  • Jens Keller made 50 league appearances for Frankfurt as a player (2002-2005). He captained Eintracht during their promotion to the Bundesliga in 2002/03 (33 games, 3 goals). He had to end his playing career due to injury in 2005.
  • Schalke's sporting director Horst Heldt was an Eintracht player from 1999-2001 (64 Bundesliga games, 9 goals). He celebrated winning the German championship together with manager Armin Veh as VfB Stuttgart's sporting director in 2007.

Borussia Mönchengladbach v VfB Stuttgart

  • Gladbach haven't won any of their last seven home games against Stuttgart (D3 L4) - they have only been waiting longer for a home win in the Bundesliga against Leverkusen (22 games). The last time they beat VfB at home in the top flight was in a 2-0 victory on April 30th 2005.
  • Gladbach have won just three of their 31 Bundesliga meetings with Stuttgart since 1995/96 (D11 L17).
  • Stuttgart's 7-0 win against Gladbach in September 2010 is Borussia's joint-heaviest Bundesliga defeat (they also lost 7-0 at home to Bremen in April 1966). Stuttgart have never won by a bigger margin in the top flight (they have won 7-0 on four other occasions).
  • With 32 points and a goal difference of +19, Gladbach sit second in the home table behind only Bayern (40 points) and level on points with Schalke.
  • Stuttgart have collected just one point from their last seven away games - during a 1-1 draw in Bremen on matchday 25.
  • VfB have claimed just eight points since the winter break, a league low. On top of that, only Hoffenheim and Wolfsburg (both 25) have conceded more goals in the second half of the season than Stuttgart (24; including the postponed match against Bayern, it's 26 in 2014).
  • With 27 points and a -13 goal difference after 29 games, VfB are having their second-worst Bundesliga season. The only time their record has been worse at this stage of the season was in their relegation campaign of 1974/75 (also 27 points but a -28 goal difference).
  • Stuttgart have squandered 28 points from winning positions (19 in 2014 alone), a league high by far. The record high since the three-points-per-win system was introduced was set by Schalke: 34 points dropped after taking the lead during the 1999/2000 season.
  • Stuttgart have already kept two clean sheets in five games under Huub Stevens. They only managed two in the 24 games under Labbadia and Schneider this season.
  • Lucien Favre has picked up 1.61 points-per-game on average as Gladbach manager (109 games, 49 wins). Only Hennes Weisweiler (1.74) and Udo Lattek (1.72) can boast a better record (only Gladbach managers with at least two games in charge considered).

Hannover 96 v Hamburger SV

  • Hannover have lost just one of their last 11 home games against HSV (1-0 in the 2007/08 season). 96 beat Hamburg 5-1 at home last season - Mirko Slomka was in the Hannover dugout back then.
  • 96 have lost their last four Bundesliga games - they last suffered a run like that over four years ago, when they lost as many as nine straight matches in the 2009/10 campaign.
  • HSV have lost six consecutive Bundesliga away games for the first time in almost 12 years. Mirko Slomka has now suffered 12 successive away defeats - the first nine of those came as Hannover manager.
  • Four of Hannover's five remaining opponents are fighting for survival. HSV, on the other hand, will face only sides from the top half of the table after their meeting with 96.
  • 96 have the second-worst chance-conversion rate in the league (11.9%). They were the best in this regard last season together with Bayern (20.8%).
  • In Ron-Robert Zieler and Rene Adler, the two keepers that have made the most mistakes leading to goals will meet in this fixture (5 each).
  • Hakan Calhanoglu has scored the most goals from distance this season (five - three of them have come from direct free kicks). However, eight of his nine goals have come at home.
  • Andre Hoffmann is out after his sending off in Braunschweig, while Szabolcs Huszti is unavailable having now collected 10 yellow cards. It's already the third suspension this season for the Hungarian midfielder.
  • Johan Djourou played for Hannover in the second half of the 2012/13 season. Artjoms Rudnevs moved from Hamburg to Hannover during the winter break and has made significantly more starting appearances for 96 (11) than he did for during the first half of the season for HSV (1).
  • Tayfun Korkut has collected an average of just 0.92 points per game. Of the Hannover managers that have been in the dugout for at least 12 Bundesliga games, only Reinhard Saftig (0.58 in 1988/89) has a worse points-per-game average than him.

VfL Wolfsburg v 1. FC Nürnberg

  • Nürnberg have beaten Wolfsburg away from home four times in their last nine attempts (D3 L2) and have collected an average of 1.5 points per away game against VfL, a Bundesliga high for FCN (at least 10 away matches required).
  • Nürnberg have lost six of their last seven Bundesliga games (W1), including each of their last three away matches. The last time FCN suffered a run of four straight away defeats was from September to November 2012.
  • No Bundesliga side has gone as long as Nürnberg without sharing the points (12 games), with FCN's last draw coming against Schalke on matchday 17 (0-0). However, Nürnberg still remain the side with the most draws in the Bundesliga this season (11).
  • Wolfsburg have scored at least once in each of their last 21 Bundesliga games - currently the longest goalscoring run in the league. They have also matched their club record - the only other time VfL have scored in 21 straight top-flight games was from October 2009 to April 2010.
  • However, VfL have only kept a clean sheet in one of their last 14 Bundesliga matches (in a 3-0 home win against Mainz 05 on matchday 20).
  • FCN also had just 26 points after 29 games in the 2007/08 season and were relegated as the third-bottom side (no relegation play-off back then). The only time they have had fewer points at the same stage of the season was in the 1983/84 campaign (20), which also ended in relegation.
  • FCN have hit the woodwork 24 times this season and have already set a new record for the most shots against the post or crossbar in a Bundesliga campaign. The previous record since Opta started collecting this statistic in 2006/07 was held by BVB (23 times, 2011/12).
  • With 10 goals to his name, Josip Drmic is the top goalscorer in the second half of the season. The Swiss striker has scored 16 of FCN's 34 goals this season (including eight of their last 12) - no other player has been involved in as big a share of a side's goals (47%).
  • Javier Pinola is set for his 200th game in Germany's top flight. He has scored five goals and provided nine assists in 199 games so far (all for FCN). He has picked up 62 yellow cards in his career - more than any other Nürnberg player.
  • Wolfsburg manager Dieter Hecking coached FCN for 112 competitive games between January 2010 and December 2012 and left them for VfL in the winter break of 2012/13.

Sport-Club Freiburg v Eintracht Braunschweig

  • Braunschweig are without a win against Freiburg in 18 competitive matches (D3 L14). Their last victory against SCF was in a second-division encounter in July 1986 (2-0 H) - Joachim Löw was on the pitch for Freiburg back then.
  • The Lions are still without a competitive win in Freiburg - they have lost in each of their last eight trips there (plus two draws).
  • Freiburg have won each of their last five competitive matches against Braunschweig without conceding. Daniel Graf's goal in October 2005 (4-1 cup defeat) remains Braunschweig's only goal against SCF in their last nine competitive meetings.
  • Freiburg (first half: 14, second half: 15) and Braunschweig (first half: 11, second half: 14) have already collected more points since the winter break than they did in their 17 matches in the first half of the season. That also applies to only Hoffenheim, Frankfurt and Nürnberg.
  • Braunschweig celebrated their biggest win of the season against Hannover and have collected seven points from their last three games. They are now just two points from safety - the last time they were that close to leaving the relegation zone was on matchday 12.
  • SCF may have won their last two home games, but they are 17th in the Bundesliga's home table, having collected just 16 points in their own stadium. In Braunschweig, Freiburg host the team with the worst away record in the division.
  • Freiburg haven't kept a clean sheet in their last 15 Bundesliga home games and are the only professional football team in Germany without a clean sheet at home this season. However, they are about to face the least prolific away side in the league (10 away goals for Eintracht).
  • Braunschweig have scored at least once in each of their last nine Bundesliga games - they hadn't managed more than a two-game run before that this season. Only Wolfsburg are currently on a longer goalscoring run (21 games).
  • Domi Kumbela has scored seven goals and provided two assists in 11 games since the winter break. He has been involved in nine of Braunschweig's 17 goals since February (53%).
  • Eintracht's sporting director Marc Arnold played for Freiburg's local rivals FFC in 1992/93 - his teammates back then included Christian Streich. Dennis Kruppke made 85 league appearances (four goals) for SC Freiburg between 2003 and 2008.

1. FSV Mainz 05 v SV Werder Bremen

  • Mainz are without a win in six home games against Werder (D2 L3). Bremen also inflicted FSV's biggest Bundesliga defeat on them, winning 6-1 in Mainz in October 2006. The 05ers' only home win the top flight against Werder came in their first Bundesliga meeting in October 2004 (2-1).
  • Only against Schalke (9) and Bayern (11) have Mainz suffered more Bundesliga defeats than against Bremen (8). Bayern (43) are the only side that have scored more goals against FSV than Werder (29).
  • Mainz have lost three of their last four Bundesliga games (one win), but they're still fourth in a table representing the second half of the season.
  • Bremen have won just one of their last 19 away games on a Saturday afternoon (D7, L11) - a 4-1 win in Stuttgart in February 2013. Werder have failed to win their last 10 away games during this timeslot (D4 L6).
  • This is Mainz's second-best Bundesliga season after 29 games. They have only been better at the same stage during 2010/11 - a campaign they ended in fifth - when they had one point more than they currently have (44).
  • Only Braunschweig (-22) currently have a worse goal difference than Bremen (-21). The last time Werder had a worse goal difference after 29 games was 34 years ago - it was -27 at this stage of the 1979/80 campaign.
  • Werder (483) have allowed the second-most shots after Nürnberg (508) and have conceded 55 goals. However, they have kept nine clean sheets this season (the same as BVB and Mainz) - only Bayern (15) and Schalke (12) have kept more.
  • Only Braunschweig (41%) have had less possession on average than Mainz (44%) and Bremen (42%) this season. Werder have always had more than 50% possession in a season since Opta started collecting detailed statistics in 2004/05.
  • Bremen's pass accuracy (70.0%) is the worst for a Bundesliga team in three years (2010/11: St. Pauli 68.7% and Hannover 67.9%).
  • Aaron Hunt has scored seven goals in 10 games against Mainz. Against no other team has he scored as many top-flight goals. The midfielder has scored four times in the last four meetings.

FC Bayern München v Borussia Dortmund

  • Bayern won the meeting in Dortmund earlier this season 3-0 - Mario Götze scored the opener as a substitute on his first return to his former club (Arjen Robben and Thomas Müller added the other goals).
  • FC Bayern haven't won any of their last three Bundesliga meetings with BVB in the Allianz Arena (D1 L2) - FCB's last home victory against Dortmund in the league was over four years ago (3-1 in February 2010).
  • The Munich side are without a win in their last two Bundesliga games (3-3 draw with Hoffenheim, 1-0 loss in Augsburg) - the last time they went as long without winning was around two years ago (mid-April 2012).
  • BVB have collected a solid 16 of a possible 21 points from the last seven matchdays (W5 D1 L1) - the same amount as FC Bayern.
  • The German champions in the last five seasons have either been Bayern München (2010, 2013, 2014) or Borussia Dortmund (2011, 2012) - before that, VfL Wolfsburg won it in 2009.
  • FCB's last two defeats in Saturday evening kick-offs have come against Dortmund - both were in 2011 and came in the Allianz Arena (3-1 in February, 1-0 in November).
  • Mario Mandzukic and Robert Lewandowski lead the Bundesliga goalscoring charts after 29 matchdays with 17 goals each - neither of them have won the Golden Boot in Germany's top flight before.
  • Marco Reus has been involved in BVB's last six goals - he has scored five times himself and he has also assisted one goal.
  • David Alaba is set for his 100th Bundesliga games - 82 of his previous 99 matches have come for FC Bayern. 17 of them were in 1899 Hoffenheim colours.
  • Pep Guardiola suffered a defeat in his very first competitive game as Bayern manager - a 4-2 loss to Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup on July 27th 2013.
  • This will be Jürgen Klopp's 200th Bundesliga game as BVB manager - only Ottmar Hitzfeld has coached Dortmund in more top-flight games (208).

Bayer 04 Leverkusen v Hertha BSC

  • Leverkusen have recorded twice as many wins (16) as they have defeats (8) in their 35 Bundesliga meetings with Hertha (11 draws).
  • Bayer 04 are unbeaten in their last five Bundesliga games against Hertha (four draws and most recently a 1-0 away win thanks to Kießling's goal earlier this season).
  • Hertha are without a win in seven games (D3 L4) - a negative record under Jos Luhukay. The last time Berlin went longer without a victory was in their relegation season of 2011/12 (12 games).
  • Bayer 04 haven't kept a clean sheet in any of their last nine Bundesliga games. The last time they failed to stop their opponents scoring in as many games was in the 2008/09 season - a run of 14 games without a clean sheet.
  • Luhukay's side have already squandered twice as many points from winning positions since the winter break (10) as they did in the first half of the season (5). On top of that, they haven't secured a single point after going behind since Christmas - they recovered 12 points from losing positions in the first 17 games this season.
  • Sascha Lewandowski has taken over from Sami Hyypiä. The Finn collected 43 of a possible 60 points in his first 20 Bundesliga games in charge, but only secured five of a possible 27 points from his final nine matches.
  • Lewandowski was in charge of Leverkusen between April 2012 and summer 2013 and recorded an impressive average of 1.98 points per game during that timeframe - the best record of all Bundesliga managers at Bayer 04 (at least 5 games in charge).
  • Julian Brandt became Leverkusen's youngest Bundesliga scorer during his starting debut in the top flight last week against Hamburg (17 years, 11 months, 2 days). He took over from Heiko Herrlich (18 years, 11 months, 21 days).
  • Stefan Kießling is set for his 250th Bundesliga game for Bayer 04. Only seven players have played in more top-flight games for Leverkusen. Kießling is the only Bundesliga player to have featured on each of their last 115 matchdays (last missed a game in December 2010).
  • Heung-Min Son and Sebastian Boenisch could both make their 100th Bundesliga appearance in the match against Hertha.
  • Hertha's Johannes van den Bergh was a member of Bayer 04's youth setup between 1999 and 2001. Hajime Hosogai made 17 Bundesliga appearances for Leverkusen last season.

1899 Hoffenheim v FC Augsburg

  • Hoffenheim have only won the first of their five Bundesliga meetings with Augsburg - the last two encounters have both ended in defeat for TSG (D2).
  • Augsburg are just one of four current Bundesliga sides (at least one game) that Hoffenheim have yet to win a home match against (two draws).
  • The game against FCA will be Hoffenheim's 200th Bundesliga match (and 100th Bundesliga home match) and they could also reach the 250-point mark (currently 249).
  • Hoffenheim are currently unbeaten in four games (W2 D2). After a run of four matches without a victory, Augsburg got back to winning ways by beating Bayern.
  • Augsburg's 1-0 win against Bayern didn't just end the Munich side's goalscoring run (65 consecutive Bundesliga games), but it also put a stop to FCA's longest run without a clean sheet in the Bundesliga (13 games).
  • Only VfB Stuttgart (28) have squandered more points from winning positions than Hoffenheim and Augsburg (both 21).
  • Only Hoffenheim (21) and Nürnberg (20) have conceded more goals from dead-ball situations than Augsburg (17).
