Bundesliga Opta Facts : Nov 22 - 23

FC Bayern München - TSG 1899 Hoffenheim

  • The two sides have met 12 times in the Bundesliga since Hoffenheim's promotion to the top flight in 2008. FC Bayern are the only BL side that TSG are yet to beat (D4 L8).
  • Hoffenheim's heaviest BL defeat also came against the record champions; TSG were crushed 7-1 in the Allianz Arena in March 2012.
  • Bayern's last home game against Hoffenheim in March 2012, when they had already been crowned champions, is the only BL game during Pep Guardiola's tenure in which the opponents have taken more shots (20) than FC Bayern (11).
  • Hoffenheim have conceded seven goals in their last two BL games - as many as they did in their previous nine matches combined.
  • The league leaders are unbeaten in 15 BL games and have won their last eight home matches with a goal record of 26-4. Their last winning run at home (21 straight home wins) ended in March 2014 against Hoffenheim though (3-3 draw).
  • Only FC Bayern have led in games during 2014/15 more often (9 times) than Hoffenheim (8 times, the same as Wolfsburg). TSG have dropped the most points from winning positions though (9).
  • FCB have conceded just three goals and could set a new club record after 12 games with a clean sheet against Hoffenheim.
  • Bayern have taken the most corners this season (91), but have yet to score from one.
  • Jerome Boateng remained unbeaten for a 50th straight BL game during the 4-0 win over Frankfurt, setting a new BL record. His last defeat in the top flight came in October 2012 against Leverkusen (2-1).
  • Thomas Müller almost transferred to Hoffenheim in 2009. Since his first-team debut on 15th August 2008, Müller has been involved in more goals than any other BL player - 108 goals scored and 66 assists in 272 competitive games.
  • Adam Szalai is the only Hoffenheim player that has already scored two goals against Bayern - both came for Mainz in the Allianz Arena (one secured a 2-1 win in September 2010).

FC Schalke 04 - VfL Wolfsburg

  • Schalke and Wolfsburg have met 34 times in the Bundesliga. S04 narrowly lead the head-to-head record with 11 wins, 13 draws and 10 defeats.
  • S04 have won each of their last four home games against VfL, conceding just once in those matches and scoring 10 times themselves.
  • The Wolves have won just one of their last five games against the Royal Blues (4 defeats) - VfL won 4-0 at home in August 2013.
  • Schalke are one of five teams unbeaten at home in the 2014/15 BL campaign (W3, D2). Their last BL loss on home soil was on matchday 32 last season against Gladbach (1-0), their only defeat in their last 17 home games (W13, D3).
  • Wolfsburg are the most in-form side in the Bundesliga, having won each of their last six games. The Wolves' only longer winning streak was in their 2008/09 title-winning season (10 straight wins).
  • The Royal Blues haven't celebrated more than two competitive wins in a row since February 2014. Their last two competitive games have ended in defeat - they never lost three competitive matches on the spin under Jens Keller.
  • Wolfsburg have kept a clean sheet in each of their last three BL games, equalling a club record (3 times before, most recently in March/April 2010).
  • There hasn't been a 0-0 draw in Wolfsburg's last 76 BL games - the longest run of its kind at present in the top flight. The last time a BL match featuring the Wolves ended goalless was in September 2012 (in Augsburg).
  • Schalke have lost more often in 11 games so far in this BL campaign (5 times) than they did in the entire second half of the 2013/14 season (17 games - W11, D3, L3).
  • Kevin De Bruyne has already assisted nine goals - no other BL player has more than five assists. In Europe's top five leagues, only Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea) has set up as many goals. The Belgian has had a hand in each of VfL's last five goals (1 goal + 4 assists).
  • Roberto Di Matteo has won all three of his competitive home games with Schalke (2-0 against Hertha, 4-3 against Sporting and 1-0 against Augsburg).

Borussia Mönchengladbach - Eintracht Frankfurt

  • This is already the second meeting between these two sides this season. Borussia won 2-1 against Frankfurt in the second round of the DFB Cup.
  • Frankfurt only have a positive head-to-head record in the BL against two current top-flight sides; Freiburg (W11, D3, L9) and Gladbach (W31, D22, L27).
  • Gladbach lost a competitive match for the first time this season on the last matchday in Dortmund (1-0). Borussia remained unbeaten in their first 18 competitive games of the campaign, something they hadn't previously done since being promoted to the BL in 1965.
  • Borussia are unbeaten in 13 competitive home matches (W8, D5). Their last defeat in Borussia-Park came in the league on 8th March 2014 in a 2-1 loss to Augsburg.
  • Eintracht have lost each of their last five competitive games, something which last happened over 10 years ago in March/April 2004. Frankfurt most recently picked up points in a 3-2 win over Köln on matchday 7.
  • Gladbach took just one shot in Dortmund and thus equalled their negative club record since detailed statistics started being collected in 2004/05. On top of that, the Foals had just one touch of the ball in the opponents' penalty area over the 90 minutes.
  • Frankfurt haven't kept a clean sheet in their last 10 games, the longest run of its kind at present in the top flight. Eintracht's only clean sheet this season came in their 1-0 win over Freiburg on matchday 1.
  • Eintracht have conceded the most second-half goals in the league (15). Seven of them have come in the final 15 minutes alone, also a league-high.
  • The game against Dortmund was Lucien Favre's 200th as a BL manager. His debut in Germany's top flight came on matchday 1 in 2007/08 when he lost 1-0 to Eintracht Frankfurt with Hertha.
  • Anderson made 13 BL appearances for Borussia in 2010/11. He was loaned out to Eintracht by the Foals for the 2011/12 season, before Frankfurt signed him on a permanent deal in 2012/13.

1. FSV Mainz 05 - Sport-Club Freiburg

  • Mainz 05 are unbeaten in seven BL games against Freiburg (W4, D3) - SCF's last BL win came in November 2010 at home (1-0). FSV have never remained unbeaten for longer against any other club in the top flight.
  • SCF have never scored more than one goal in a top-flight match against Mainz (a total of 8 in 12 BL games). Freiburg only have as poor a record in the BL (0.67 goals per game) against Düsseldorf.
  • Mainz have collected just one point from their last three games and have slipped from third to eighth in the table in that timeframe.
  • Freiburg had to wait until matchday 10 for their first win (1-0 away at Köln). SCF have collected more points over the last two matchdays (6) than they did in the first nine combined (5).
  • SCF have won each of their last three competitive matches - the last time they went on a longer winning run was in April/May 2009 (a 5-game winning streak in the second division).
  • Mainz haven't scored a second-half goal in their last seven BL games. The 05ers' last six goals have all come before the break.
  • Freiburg have scored six of their 11 league goals this season from set pieces - proportionally (54.5%), a league-high.
  • With 81.5% of shots saved, 21-year-old Mainz keeper Loris Karius has the fourth-best record in the division (behind Manuel Neuer, Yann Sommer and Diego Benaglio). On top of that, Karius has made the most saves in the league (53).
  • Sebastian Kerk, Sebastian Freis, Stefan Mitrovic and Sascha Riether have only started the three most recent competitive games this season - Freiburg have won all of them.
  • Julian Baumgartlinger made his BL debut on 13th August 2011 in Freiburg (2-1 win).

Hannover 96 - Bayer 04 Leverkusen

  • Bayer 04 Leverkusen haven't won any of their last six away games against Hannover (D4, L2) - they haven't been waiting as long for an away win against any other current BL side.
  • However, Hannover have won just one of their last 10 league games against Bayer 04 (D4, L5) - their last victory was a 3-2 win in December 2012.
  • Hannover have collected 19 points despite having scored just nine goals - no other BL side had ever achieved that feat after 11 games. 96 have equalled their negative BL record at the same time: The only other time they have had just 9 goals to their name at this stage was in 1970/71 (8 points).
  • For the first time this calendar year, Leverkusen have failed to score in back-to-back BL games. They have taken 46 shots without scoring since their last goal.
  • For the first time in their BL history, Hannover have six clean sheets after 11 games. The Lower Saxony club have won each of their last three games without conceding, equalling their BL record from 2006/07.
  • The last time Bayer 04 had just four wins to their name after 11 games was seven years ago in the 2007/08 season.
  • Stefan Kießling has gone 813 minutes of league football without scoring, the longest drought of his BL career.
  • Nevertheless, Kießling is still the BL player with the most competitive goals this season (10, the same as Heung-Min Son).
  • New Hannover signing Joselu has also been waiting a while to score; 580 minutes of BL football have passed since he last found the net on matchday 5 (against Köln).
  • Hiroshi Kiyotake has had a hand in three of his side's last four goals (2 goals + 1 assist).
  • Tayfun Korkut and Roger Schmidt got their coaching badges together in 2010/11.

SC Paderborn 07 - Borussia Dortmund

  • The newly promoted side have never faced Dortmund in a competitive fixture as SC Paderborn. However, in the second round of the 1984/85 DFB Cup, BVB did win 4-2 against TuS Paderborn-Neuhaus, who were renamed SC Paderborn 07 in 1997.
  • BVB managed to end their nightmare run of five straight BL defeats thanks to a 1-0 win over Gladbach, coupled with a commanding performance. However, their last four BL away games have ended in defeat (something that last happened in 2006/07, a run of 6 games).
  • BVB's rivals for Champions League qualification already have a substantial advantage. Fourth-place Hannover have nine points more, Gladbach 10, Wolfsburg 13 and Bayern a whopping 17.
  • Two teams have gone on to finish fourth after having a maximum of 10 points after 11 games (converted to the 3-points-per-win system): Eintracht Frankfurt in 1971/72 (10 points) and 1. FC Köln in 1991/92 (9, although in a 38-game season).
  • SCP haven't kept a clean sheet in their last seven BL games. BVB kept their first clean sheet of the campaign in their win over Gladbach.
  • Paderborn have scored 12 second-half goals - only Wolfsburg and Bayern have scored more (13 each). Six of SCP's last seven competitive goals have come after the break. The last five competitive goals that Dortmund have conceded have come in the second half.
  • Only HSV's chance-conversion rate (4.0%) is worse than BVB's (9.0%).
  • Three of the last four goals that SCP have conceded have been headers - they hadn't let in a single headed goal prior to that.
  • Gladbach took just one shot against BVB. Dortmund had never previously managed to limit their opponents to just one shot in a BL game since Opta started collecting detailed statistics in 2004/05.
  • Reus, who Bayern are supposedly eyeing a move for, has been involved in 32 of BVB's last 66 shots (48%). He has also had a hand in the two goals Dortmund have scored themselves in their last four games.
  • Marvin Ducksch (6 BL games), Uwe Hünemeier (5), Lukas Kruse, Mario Vrancic, Marvin Bakalorz and Mahir Saglik (all in the reserves) have all played for Dortmund in the past.

1. FC Köln - Hertha BSC

  • This will be the third meeting between Köln and Hertha on a Saturday evening. The first two ended in 3-0 wins for Berlin, most recently in early October 2010. Köln have won just one of their 10 Saturday evening kick-offs to date (D3, L6).
  • Berlin have won four of their last five competitive matches in Cologne (1 defeat). Interestingly, Hertha had recorded just one win from their 18 games away to Köln prior to that (D2, L15).
  • The last meeting between Köln and Hertha took place on matchday 33 of the 2012/13 second-division campaign. Berlin won 2-1 away from home, securing the league title and ensuring promotion was not possible for Köln, who then came up a year later.
  • 1. FC Köln have won three of their last four BL games (1 defeat). Only the two top teams Bayern (10) and Wolfsburg (12) have collected more points than the promoted side in that timeframe (9, the same as Hannover).
  • With just one win from five games in their own stadium (D2, L2), Köln are 16th in the home table and in Hertha, host the worst away side in the division (just 1 point from 5 games).
  • Including last season, Berlin are without a win in their last 11 away games (D3, L8). Their last BL victory on the road came almost nine months ago; they won 2-1 in Stuttgart at the end of February.
  • Berlin have already conceded eight goals from set pieces this season - only VfB Stuttgart have conceded more goals from dead balls (9). Only Mainz (6) have conceded more headed goals than Hertha (5).
  • Hertha have the worst pass accuracy in the division (67.4%). They're also the worst side in terms of the number of passes played (3,840).
  • Pawel Olkowski was Köln's "Man of the Match" in their 4-3 win over Hoffenheim on matchday 11. The Pole scored his first two goals in his 10th BL game and also grabbed an assist. Both of his goals came from outside the penalty area.
  • After a 2-1 loss to Köln on 4th October 2008, Jos Luhukay was let go as Borussia Mönchengladbach manager following a run of six defeats and just one win at the start of the season. Six months later, he took over at FC Augsburg.

Hamburger SV - SV Werder Bremen

  • This will be the 101st BL meeting between Hamburger SV and Werder Bremen. No other match-up has taken place as often in Germany's top flight.
  • Bremen have won five of their last six northern derbies against HSV, with the other ending in defeat (3-2 home win for Hamburg in January 2013).
  • The two sides have only been positioned worse in the table ahead of a northern derby once before; on matchday 11 of the 1970/71 season, HSV were 17th and Werder were 16th, as they are at the moment. The game in Hamburg ended in a 1-1 draw.
  • Hamburg have scored just four goals in the opening 11 games and have thus equalled the all-time record low set by Eintracht Frankfurt in 1970/71.
  • Bremen have won all three of their competitive games under new manager Viktor Skripnik, recording back-to-back BL wins for the first time since March this year.
  • Werder kept their first clean sheet of the BL campaign in their 2-0 win over VfB Stuttgart on matchday 11 and also managed to avoid going behind in a league game for the first time in 2014/15.
  • Bremen have scored the most away goals in the league (10, the same as Stuttgart), however, they have conceded the most goals on the road by some distance (18). Werder's six away matches this season have produced an average of 4.7 goals per game.
  • With six goals to his name, Werder's Franco Di Santo leads the BL goalscoring charts together with four other players. Last season, no Bremen player netted more than seven goals during the entire campaign (Aaron Hunt and Nils Petersen).
  • Zlatko Junuzovic set up both goals in the 2-0 win over Stuttgart and is second in the league in terms of assists with five to his name (Wolfsburg's De Bruyne is 1st with 9 assists).
  • Bremen's Raphael Wolf (2004-09) and Eljero Elia (2009-11) are former HSV players, while Dennis Diekmeier used to wear SVW colours (2003-08).
  • The two coaches last met in the Regionalliga Nord at the start of September; Zinnbauer's HSV reserves beat Skripnik's Bremen reserves 4-2.

VfB Stuttgart - FC Augsburg

  • None of the six BL meetings between the two sides have ended in a draw. Stuttgart won the first three, while Augsburg have won the three most recent encounters. There have been at least three goals scored in all six matches.
  • VfB have won just two of their last 14 BL games (1-0 against Hannover on matchday 6 and 5-4 in Frankfurt on matchday 9) - otherwise, they have recorded four draws and eight defeats.
  • With 15 points on the board after 11 games, Augsburg are having the best season in their young BL history. On top of that, FCA have never had as many goals to their name at this stage of the season as they do currently (14), nor have they conceded as few goals (12).
  • VfB have only once had a worse points haul after 11 BL games than they do at present (9 points): They had just seven (converted to the 3-points-per-win system) in 1974/75, a season which ended in relegation.
  • With 25 goals conceded, Stuttgart currently have the worst defence in the Bundesliga. Never before in their club history have VfB let in as many goals in their first 11 BL games.
  • FCA have lost each of their last four away games, something which last happened between September and November last year. Augsburg have never suffered a run of five straight away defeats within one BL campaign.
  • VfB's tally of nine goals conceded from set pieces is a league high, as is their tally of five goals let in from free kicks.
  • Tobias Werner scored the first brace of his BL career during the 3-0 win over Paderborn and also became the first Augsburg player to have a hand in three goals in a single BL game (2 goals + 1 assist).
  • Moritz Leitner was on loan at FCA in the second half of 2010/11 and celebrated promotion to the top flight with them. The midfielder notched up two assists in nine second-division games for Augsburg.
  • Augsburg-born manager Armin Veh took his first footballing steps as a player (until 1979) and coach (1990-95) at FCA - he also managed the then Regionalliga side between 2003 and 2004 and only just missed out on promotion to the second tier.
