Preston v Middlesbrough - Bet Now
Preston North End have not beaten Middlesbrough in any of their last five meetings in all competitions (D2 L3). At home, PNE haven’t beaten Boro since November 1972 – a run of only five matches (D1 L4). Before this season, the last time Preston had beaten a team from a higher division was in 2002 when they progressed to the fourth round. So far this year, they have beaten Championship clubs in both rounds. This will be Middlesbrough’s 10th away League Cup clash in a row. They have won five and lost four of the previous nine. Both teams have scored in seven of the last eight matches involving Preston in all competitions.
Arsenal v Coventry City - Bet Now
Arsenal have won four of their last five matches (in all competitions) with Coventry although the last time they met was in February 2001. The two sides have met three times in the League Cup with Arsenal winning twice and Coventry winning the other. Arsene Wenger’s side have lost just two of their last 35 matches in the League Cup against clubs from lower divisions than them (W24 D9 L2). When drawn away to clubs from a higher division than them in the League Cup, Coventry City have only won once in six games (L5) although that win did come in their last trip. They beat Manchester United 2-0 in the third round of the 2008 competition. Arsenal are unbeaten in ten matches in all competitions (W4 D6).
Southampton v Sheffield Wednesday - Bet Now
On the two previous occasions that Southampton and Sheffield Wednesday have been drawn against each other in the League Cup, it was also in the Third Round. The three previous matches between the two (1992 went to a replay) have produced just four goals. The Saints have won their last five matches against teams from lower divisions than them – scoring 15 goals in the process. Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Fulham in round two ended a run of five consecutive defeats to Premier League clubs in the League Cup. Southampton’s six games (in all competitions) so far this season have produced 29 goals – 4.8 goals per game.
Chelsea v Wolverhampton Wanderers - Bet Now
Chelsea have won eight of their last nine matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers (in all competitions), although the two sides have never met before in the League Cup. Chelsea have failed to win any of their last three League Cup matches at Stamford Bridge (D1 L2). Wolves have advanced in the League Cup when drawn against a team from a higher division on only one occasion in the last eight meetings. Roberto Di Matteo’s side are unbeaten in five home matches (in all competitions) (W4 D1). Wolves have won three of their last four away matches in all competitions (L1) and have scored eight goals in the process.
Carlisle v Tottenham - Bet Now
Spurs were victorious over Carlisle in their only previous meeting in the League Cup. Tottenham won 5-2 (over two legs) in the second round of the 1998 competition. Carlisle have won only two of their last 22 meetings (16 ties) against teams from higher divisions in the League Cup (D3 L17), although both wins have come in their last three ties. Tottenham haven’t been eliminated by a team from the third tier of the Football League since 1979, a run of 17 ties (24 matches) – W17 D5 L2. Danny Cadamarteri has scored twice in his last four games for Carlisle – the same amount as he had managed in his previous 34 appearances in all competitions.
Swindon v Burnley - Bet Now
Three of the last four matches between Swindon and Burnley (in all competitions) have ended as draws – although the last time they met was in April 1996. Their only previous meeting in this competition was in 1969 when they faced off in the semi-finals. The two-legged affair finished 3-3 on aggregate and was settled by Swindon winning the third match 3-2. Swindon beat Arsenal in the final. The Robins have won just one of their last 11 home games in the League Cup (D2 L8). Burnley have advanced in 11 of their last 12 clashes with lower league opposition in the League Cup (W9 D2 L1). Charlie Austin has scored nine goals in eight appearances (in all competitions) for Burnley this season.
West Ham v Wigan - Bet Now
Six of the last seven matches between West Ham and Wigan (in all competitions) have been won by the home team. The three matches between the two teams since April 2010 (all in the Premier League) have produced 14 goals although all of the 11 different scorers no longer play for either club. The Hammers have won 11 of their last 13 home games in the League Cup – losing the other two. Wigan have won only three of their last 10 away games in the League Cup – losing the other seven. Leeds United v Everton - Bet Now
Leeds have won just one of their last seven matches with Everton (in all competitions) (D3 L3) although their last meeting was in April 2004 in the Premier League. Everton have won just one of their last 14 visits to Elland Road (D4 L9). Leeds have progressed only twice in their last 12 clashes against teams from higher leagues in the League Cup. Everton have won just one of their last five away matches in the League Cup (D1 L3). Victor Anichebe has scored three goals in his four appearances for Everton (in all competitions) this season.
Manchester United v Newcastle United - Bet Now
The two Uniteds have faced each other twice in this competition previously, securing a home win apiece. In the Premier League, the Magpies are undefeated in their past three meetings with Manchester United (W1 D2). Manchester United have won their last five matches in all competitions. Newcastle have suffered just one loss in all competitions this season and are undefeated in their last five outings (W2 D3). Manchester United have come out on top in seven of their eight cup meetings (in all competitions), including the Community Shield, with the Magpies winning once.
Manchester City v Aston Villa - Bet Now
Manchester City and Aston Villa have faced each other three times in this competition. The Citizens have lost two, but advanced in their most recent tie in November 2000. In all cup competitions, City have a good record against the Villans, winning eight, losing four and drawing two. City are yet to keep a clean sheet this season but are undefeated in the Premier League (W2 D3). In the Premier League, the Villans’ 2-0 victory over Swansea on 15 September was their first success in fifteen outings (D6 L8). Manchester City have been victorious in the past three meetings between the sides.
MK Dons v Sunderland - Bet Now
The two teams have never met in competition.
MK Dons are undefeated at home in all competitions this season (W4 D1) and caused an upset in the last round of the tournament by defeating Championship high-flyers Blackburn Rovers.
Sunderland are undefeated this season but have drawn all four of their Premier League contests. They defeated Morecambe in round two of the Capital One Cup.
Striker Steven Fletcher has netted four times in his last three appearances for the Black Cats.
Sunderland crashed out of this competition last season to lower league opposition, suffering a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Brighton.
West Bromwich Albion v Liverpool - Bet Now
This is the second meeting at The Hawthorns between the sides this season; the Baggies won 3-0 on the opening day of the Premier League.
West Brom have defeated Liverpool in three of their last four clashes, with the Reds picking up the win just once.
This fixture has failed to produce a draw since 1984, with a positive result occurring in the last 17 meetings between the sides (in all competitions).
Liverpool have won four matches from five (D1) in Europe this season, but are yet to taste victory in the Premier League (D3 L3).
On the contrary, the Baggies have lost just once this season and have won all of their home games to date.
Crawley Town v Swansea City - Bet Now
This is the second season that Crawley have been involved in this competition and the Reds have progressed to round three by knocking out Championship opposition in Millwall and Bolton Wanderers.
Swansea City crashed out of this competition at the hands of then-League Two side Shrewsbury Town last season.
The Jacks are without a win in three (D1 L2) since defeating Barnsley in this competition on 28 August.
Swansea have never faced Crawley in competitive action.
Crawley enter the match on the back of a 5-2 defeat at Tranmere, but have won four of six home games in all competitions this season (L2).
Queens Park Rangers v Reading - Bet Now
Reading have won just one of their last six games (in all competitions) against Queens Park Rangers (D2 L3).
The last four matches between the two teams (in all competitions) have seen five red cards shown - four for QPR and one for Reading.
Reading won their only meeting in the League Cup 4-0. The game was in the second round of the 1965 competition.
QPR have failed to progress in any of their last 11 League Cup ties against teams from the same division as them.
Reading have not failed to score in any of their last 13 League Cup matches - scoring 32 goals in that time.
Norwich City v Doncaster Rovers - Bet Now
Doncaster have won just one of their last 10 matches with Norwich (D2 L7), although they have avoided defeat in the last three.
The two teams have only met twice in all cup competitions - both in the FA Cup. Norwich won both games 2-1.
The Canaries last six games in the League Cup have yielded 25 goals - 4.2 goals per game.
Rovers have won just two of their last 30 away matches in the League Cup (D10 L18).
The last four games between the two teams have seen four goals scored in the final ten minutes of the clashes.
Bradford City v Burton Albion - Bet Now
Five of the last six matches between the two (in all competitions) have ended in a score draw, with Burton winning the other.
Bradford have won just two of their last seven home games in the League Cup (D2 L3).
This is the first time Burton Albion have advanced beyond the first round of the League Cup, having gone out at the first stage in the previous three seasons.
Burton have never failed to score or managed to keep a clean sheet in an of the six League Cup matches they have played.
Calvin Zola has scored four times in his last three games for the Albion.
