Europa League Opta Facts - SFs first legs

Benfica v Juventus

  • Benfica have won three of their four previous European encounters with Juventus, though did lose their last meeting with the Old Lady in 1993.
  • The two sides met in the European Cup semi-final in 1968, with Juventus losing twice and failing to score in either leg.
  • The Eagles have won just one of their last six European fixtures against Italian sides, though this victory came in their last game, against Napoli (D2 L3).
  • Juventus are unbeaten in five games against Portuguese sides in Europa (W4 D1). In fact, their only three losses to sides from Portugal have been against Benfica (W7 D1).
  • Benfica have never lost the first leg of a European semi-final tie when at home, winning five and drawing once (European Cup, UEFA Cup/Europa League, Cup Winners Cup).
  • Juventus have been beaten only once in their last seven European semi-final first legs, their most recent semi-final appearance coming in the Champions League in 2003 (W4 D2).
  • The Eagles have won 15 of their last 17 home games in this competition (D2).
  • The Turin side have won their last three away games in the Europa League without conceding.
  • Rodrigo Lima has scored every 54 minutes in the Europa League this season for Benfica, finding the net three times.
  • Juve have kept seven clean sheets in their last 10 games (in all competitions).

Sevilla v Valencia

  • This will be Sevilla's third semi-final appearance in the Europa League (2005/06 and 2006/07 in the UEFA Cup). They didn't win either of the first legs in those ties (both away) before winning both home return legs.
  • Valencia's last two semi-final appearances in this competition have been against La Liga sides (Villarreal in 2003/04 and Atletico Madrid in 2011/12). They won neither first leg away from home on those occasions (D1 L1).
  • In fact, Valencia's only win over a fellow Spanish side in their last eight attempts came in the 2003/04 semi-final against Villarreal; they've lost four of those games (D3).
  • The Red and Whites have won only two of their nine encounters with Spanish sides in European competition, including a win over city rivals Real Betis earlier in the competition (D3 L4).
  • This will be the first ever clash between the two Spanish sides in Europe.
  • However, Sevilla have won eight of their last 11 home games against Valencia (La Liga and Copa Del Rey, drawing the other three).
  • Valencia's last win at the Sanchez Pizjuan came in May 2004.
  • Sevilla have gone five home European games without keeping a clean sheet.
  • Valencia's loss to Basel in their last away game was their first in nine European away assignments (W7 D1).
  • Kevin Gameiro has scored six times in his last four games for Sevilla.
  • Paco Alcacer has netted seven times in 10 Europa League appearances. Only Jonatan Soriano has scored more than the Valencia player in this year's competition.
  • Valencia have had 148 shots in total in the competition, more than any other club, while Sevilla have had 121, which ranks them third.
