La Liga Live! This weekend's previews
Saturday 21 November
After Real Madrid's (1/5) embarrassing Copa Del Rey elimination at the hands of Alcocorn, the load on coach Pellegrini's shoulders gets heavier and heavier and nothing less than three points will ease the burden against lowly Racing Santander (8/1).
Racing have just parted company with Juan Carlos Mandia and the former Real Madrid Castilla manager leaves behind a team that has only won once in the league this season.
That win was against bottom club Malaga and two days after relieving Mandia of his services the verdiblancos won their second game of the season as they beat second division Salamanca 4-1 at home in the Copa Del Rey.
The star man in that win was Mohammed Tchite and the hatrick hero can be backed at 100/1 to repeat his three goal haul, 11/1 to score first or 4/1 to score at anytime.
Current captain, former Real Madrid player and Racing legend Pedro Munitis is yet to find the back of the net this season and has a habit of scoring against former clubs- Most notably, while on loan from Real at Racing a few seasons ago, he scored and celebrated gleefully in front of the Madrid supporters. Should you fancy Pedro to break his seasonal duck in this game, he is available at 16/1 as first scorer or 4/1 to score at anytime.
For Real, Higuain is in good form and priced at 7/2 as first scorer or 10/11 to score at anytime, while Kaka scored a stunning opening goal against Atletico and must therefore warrant interest at 5/1 as the games first scorer.
A Partisan crowd will be in attendance as Athletic (5/1) host Barcelona (4/9) in the intimidating cauldron of San Marmes. No longer the fortress it used to be with Athletic losing two of their five La Liga games at home this season, but notably there has yet to be a draw at San Marmes. Anyone looking for a long shot will be interested with the 11/4 price on offer.
When the two teams last met it was to contest the Spanish Super cup and Barca came out on top with a 2-1 win in Bilbao and a 3-0 win in Barcelona. Repeats of these score lines are priced at 6/1 and 17/2 respectively.
A goal is certainly not beyond Athletic and Llorente offers their best hope. He is priced at 8/1 to be the first scorer or 11/4 to score at anytime.
For Barca, Pedro is proving his worth in the Catalans star studded team and his brace against Mallorca makes him well worth punters attention. He is priced at 11/2 for the first goal or 6/4 to score at anytime.
Thierry Henry has recently returned and scored against Mallorca. The former Wenger boy is priced at 5/1 to score first or last and 5/4 to score at anytime.
While Athletic have improved recently with a win against Racing Santander, I can't see anything other than a Barcelona win in this match.
Recommendation: Barcelona (4/9)
Worth a punt: Pedro to score at anytime (6/4)
Sunday 22 November
This Sunday William Hill Online sponsored Malaga (6/5) play Real Zaragoza (7/4) for the third time in a month and with two ninety minute draws in the previous two games, you have to fancy a draw (9/4) again.
The two fixtures mentioned above were in the Copa Del Rey and Malaga progressed on away goals after a 0-0 draw in the 2nd leg at La Rosaleda. The first leg in Zaragoza ended 1-1 and this scoreline can be backed at 5/1, with 0-0 priced at 11/1.
If you fancy a first scorer, Edinho netted against Tenerife and is available at 11/2, while Obinna and Luque are priced at 6/1 and 7/1 respectively to perform the same feat.
For Zaragoza, Ewerthon is 13/2 to score at anytime, with teammates Aguilar and Lafita priced at 11/1 and 9/1 in the same market.
It's fair to say that Malaga have been improving recently and their second half performance against Valencia and draw with Tenerife are testament to this. A win could be asking to much from Malaga at this stage, so I'm going with the draw.
Recommendation: Draw (9/4)
