La Liga Preview
Last weekend a 2-1 win away at Atletico Madrid was the kind of result that would be associated with champions but they have failed to do this most of the season.
Real Madrid ground out a 1-0 victory away at Rayo Vallecano thanks to an audacious back heel by Cristiano Ronaldo, who else? To keep Real in full control of the destination of the La Liga title but it could have been the week where Los Blancos all but won the league.
This weekend sees both sides start the weekend at very short prices. Barcelona at 1/10 as they host Sporting and Real at 1/7 who host Champions League chasing Espanyol.
Barcelona should walk away with all three points in a straightforward game and a 5-0 victory at 9/1 looks like it could be on the cards. For a bit of safety 4-0 at 11/2 could be worth a shout, as Guardiola would look at games like this to pile the pressure onto Real.
The stand out price in Real Madrid's home match with Espanyol is for Ronaldo to bag two or more goals that is priced at 11/8. He is in sparkling form and will relish facing Espanyol who are eighth but are currently only two points off of the Champions League place.
Two teams that are slightly behind Espanyol in tenth and ninth respectively but only one point further back play each other this weekend. Sevilla host Atletico Madrid and although Sevilla won last weekend at Valencia they still flatter to deceive. Therefore, the 23/10 on offer for an Atletico win should be snapped up immediately. They are playing well and are well placed to bag that fourth spot.
A key relegation battle between Zaragoza and Villarreal takes place on Sunday with Villarreal at 7/5. They are worth backing at that price against a poor Zaragoza side that are all but down. The home side are 2/1.
Athletic Bilbao host Real Sociedad this week and are 8/13 to continue some fine home form and they should be one of the home bankers across Europe this weekend. A good price to take for an away banker should be Valencia who are 11/10 away at Granada.
Also this week, money rich Getafe and Malaga kick the weekend's games off and a 6/4 win for Getafe may well be great value as is the 5/6 for a home win as Vallecano host Santander.
Mallorca host Osasuna and are 10/11 to win and Levante play Betis with the draw appealing at 21/10.
