Penalties possible in CIS final

There's a familiar feel to the CIS Cup final as the old foes Celtic and Rangers take to Hampden Park but with so little between the sides we should be preparing for a long afternoon.

The difference is in fact so small that even Gordon Strachan is in the mindset that 90 minutes is too short of a period to find a winner, saying "the teams are well matched at the moment, the league table tells you that, so penalties could happen."

It's a sentiment everybody is feeling, including our traders who have priced both teams at 17/10 to win without the need for extra time, while the draw at 21/10 is where my money would be heading.

The big question is what will win out, defence or attack? And for the sake of the game and doubters of Scottish football let's hope Kris Boyd, Barry Ferguson, Scott McDonald and Shunsuke Nakamura all shine.

Boyd in particular has been on fire all season long as he has shown Walter Smith what he missed out on by not playing him last year. The talismanic forward has 21 league goals this year and looks a bit of value at 5/1 to score the first of the game, although with so many goalscoring options on both sides there are several serious threats.

Scott McDonald is perhaps the Celtic player to give David Weir and the Rangers defence the biggest headache as he can once again send out a message to the English scouts that he is Premier League class.

The Aussie has not found himself on the scoresheet as frequently as he would have liked following his heroics at the tail end of last season but he has shown many times that he loves the big games - and in Scottish football they don't come any bigger than this.

At the minute Boyd and McDonald are the best strikers in Scotland and if both of them find the net, which is a distinct possibility, you can grab yourself odds of 5/1.

The one bet that looks a dead cert though is the 5/6 about more than 55 points on the total bookings market (10 points for a yellow, 25 for a red) as passion, and the odd late challenge, will be out in force.

But with a massive 45 prelive markets available for you to bet on in this huge CIS Cup final and a big range of in-play markets when the game starts, there really is something to suit every type of punter.
