Premier League Opta Facts – April 6-8

Reading v Southampton

  • Reading have lost six successive Barclays Premier League games; one away from the worst run seen this season in the Premier League, also set by the Royals (seven games).
  • This will be only the second Premier League meeting between the two sides. Southampton, then managed by Nigel Adkins, beat Reading 1-0 in December.
  • Saints have lost just one of their last five clashes with Reading in all competitions (W2 D2).
  • The Royals have conceded the first goal on 19 occasions this season; more than any other team.
  • Despite scoring the first goal on 16 occasions this season (bettered only by five teams), Southampton have only held on to win seven of those games (D5 L4).
  • Rickie Lambert scored his 14th Premier League goal of the season against Chelsea last weekend - the most by any English player in the competition.
  • Morgan Schneiderlin has made 118 interceptions in the Premier League this season; 31 more than any other player.
  • Substitutes have scored 10 times for Reading this season; more than any other Premier League side.
  • Under Nigel Adkins in the Premier League, Southampton won 23% (5 of 22) of their games. Under Mauricio Pochettino they have won 33% (3 of 9).
  • Southampton have collected just two points in their four Premier League away games under Pochettino (D2 L2).
  • Reading have kept a league-low three clean sheets this season. All three have come at the Madejski Stadium.
  • Despite having the worst shooting accuracy in the Premier League (39.8%), Reading have the fourth best conversion rate with their chances (15.3%). It is bettered only by Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Norwich City v Swansea City

  • Norwich City have won all three of their Barclays Premier League clashes with Swansea City.
  • The three games between the two teams in the Premier League have produced 16 goals in total.
  • Of the teams to play more than 20 Premier League games in April, only Derby (0.80) and Charlton (0.79) average fewer points per game than Norwich (0.81 - W6 D4 L17).
  • Only Stoke City (5) have picked up fewer points from their last 10 Premier League games than the Canaries (9).

  • Michu has not scored an away goal in the Premier League in 2013. His last six goals in the competition have been netted at the Liberty Stadium; a run that started with his brace versus Norwich in December.

Stoke City v Aston Villa

  • The last four Barclays Premier League games between these two sides have finished in draws; with just four goals being scored.
  • Stoke have won just one of their last six league games at the Britannia Stadium (D3 L2).
  • Tony Pulis' side have had just 94 shots on target this season; a joint-league low with Reading.
  • Only Southampton (27) and Reading (23) have lost more points from losing positions this season than Aston Villa (21).

West Bromwich Albion v Arsenal

  • Arsenal have won each of their last three Barclays Premier League clashes against West Bromwich Albion.
  • The Gunners have won four and lost just one of their six Premier League trips to The Hawthorns; netting in each match there.
  • Steve Clarke's side have won back-to-back home games for the first time since November 2012 thanks to consecutive 2-1 wins over Sunderland and Swansea.
  • Four of Arsenal's six league away wins this season have come in their last seven trips away from the Emirates (D1 L2).
  • No team have scored more goals after the 76th minute of matches this season than Arsenal (15).

Liverpool v West Ham United

  • Liverpool have won six of their last eight clashes with West Ham United in the Barclays Premier League (L1 D1).
  • After masterminding a draw on his first Premier League trip to Anfield (Jan 2002), Sam Allardyce has seen his teams lose on each of his last eight trips there.
  • Liverpool have won five of their last six home league matches; losing the other.

  • Sunderland have won none of their last eight Barclays Premier League matches (D3 L5).
  • Chelsea have won 15 of their last 16 Premier League clashes with Sunderland, losing the other.
  • The Black Cats' only victory over Chelsea in the league since the end of March 2001 came at Stamford Bridge when they won 3-0 in November 2010.

Newcastle United v Fulham

  • Fulham have won five of the last seven matches against Newcastle in the Barclays Premier League (D1 L1).
  • The Cottagers have lost just one of their last five league games away from home (W2 D2).
  • However, Fulham have scored only five times in their last six on the road.
  • Newcastle have won three successive home league matches for the first time since April last year when they won four.

Queens Park Rangers v Wigan Athletic

  • Wigan have won one, drawn one and lost one of their three Barclays Premier League clashes with QPR.
  • Queens Park Rangers have won just one of their last seven home league games (D3 L3).
  • The Latics have won two and lost just one of their last five Premier League games on the road.
  • After keeping four clean sheets in five league matches at the beginning of 2013, QPR have conceded 14 times in their last six matches.

Manchester United v Manchester City

  • Manchester United (W25 D2) and Manchester City (W18 D2) are two of the three teams yet to lose in the Barclays Premier League this season when they have taken the lead (Arsenal are the other).
  • Sir Alex Ferguson's side have won each of their last seven Premier League games and are unbeaten in 18 (D2). Both are Premier League bests for this season.
  • Including the Community Shield match in 2011, the last five meetings between Manchester City and Manchester United (all comps) have seen 23 goals scored - an average of 4.6 a game.
  • Manchester United are the only team yet to concede a penalty in the Premier League this season.
  • Only Man City (14) have kept more clean sheets than United so far this season (11).

  • Robin van Persie has gone nine successive appearances without a goal in all competitions; this despite attempting 24 shots a goal within his 549 minutes on this pitch during this run.
  • Manchester United have kept six clean sheets in a row in the Premier League, and have not conceded for 627 minutes in the competition. Only nine sides have gone longer without conceding a goal in the competition, with Manchester United's run of 1334 minutes in 2008-09 the longest.
  • Carlos Tevez has now netted seven goals in his last six competitive games for Manchester City.
  • Manchester United have won eight and lost just one of the nine Premier League games without Wayne Rooney this season.
  • On six occasions this season, Man Utd have conceded the first goal at Old Trafford in the Premier League. They have won five of those six games, losing the other 3-2 to Tottenham.
  • This will be Manchester United's 51st Premier League game on a Monday. They have won 36, drawn 10 and lost four of the previous 50. It will be Man City's 56th Monday match (W23 D15 L17).
