Serie A Weekend Preview
Italian Serie A Preview 05/11 - 06/11 by Mark Young (Twitter: @markyoung1988)
It has been a season of chopping and changing in Serie so far but there are still plenty of teams with lofty title ambitions. Silly points have been dropped by everyone this season.
Last Saturday saw five title contenders play. Juventus went to the San Siro and beat Inter Milan by two goals to one and were fully deserving of the points. It doesn't get any easier for either side this weekend as Juventus travel to another one of the previously mentioned contenders in Napoli and Inter Milan go to Genoa.
Ever since Napoli defeated AC Milan and Inter Milan they have been very underwhelming. It has been a bit of a struggle in a tough group for them in the Champions League too but they do have good form against teams that they shouldn't necessarily be beating so far this term. A draw at Manchester City in Europe and those wins against the Milan clubs make Napoli fearful opponents. Juventus have been impressive so far and will want to continue this form. They are 2/1 to win in Napoli but the 6/4 for Napoli to pick themselves up after a midweek disappointment in Munich looks very nice. Federico Fernandez scored twice against Bayern and the defender is 7/1 to net again. Edinson Cavani is a bit short at 4/1 to score first but Marek Hamsik, who has been out of sorts recently looks decent at 7/1. Claudio Marchisio score against Inter Milan last Saturday and is a 12/1 shout to open the scoring once again.
Inter Milan are travelling to their former manager's previous club this Sunday lunch time but it will be another man visiting his former club that should be hitting form at the right time. Diego Milito scored the winner for Inter against Lille in their mid week Champions League game and is a huge 6/1 to net the first or last goal this weekend. Milito has been a great acquisition for Inter since Jose Mourinho took him to the San Siro. Inter are 17/10 to win in 90 minutes and it is the same price for Genoa. 21/20 for the match to have over 2.5 goals is a bet that really sticks out.
Two more title contenders, Roma and AC Milan faced up in the capital last Saturday with Milan the victors in a 3-2 win. Milan are at home this weekend as they host Catania and it is hard to look beyond them wrapping up victory at 2/5. Antonio Cassano has had heart surgery this week so it would not be surprising to see Alegri's men go out and secure victory in style for their teammate.
Roma travel to newly promoted Novara and after two defeats in a row to Lazio and AC Milan will now be looking to pick up three points at the newly promoted side. Bojan scored the final goal against Milan and is 13/2 to replicate this against Novara. The best bet in this game has to be Roma to win in the 90 minutes at Evens. If they have real ambitions of a title challenge this season, these games must be won.
Bologna go to Palermo in the first game of the weekend on Saturday with Palermo priced at 7/10. Udinese host Siena after a 4-0 beating at the hands of Atletico Madrid in the Europa League but should still have too much for Siena at 8/13. Lazio host Parma and it would not be surprising to see a draw be the result of this game at 13/5. Chievo host Fiorentina, Atalanta host Cagliari and Lecce go to Cesena.
