Swans out to stun Spurs on Super Sunday
Two late Everton goals turned the tables on Tottenham's trip to Goodison Park last weekend, and after the North London club saw their chance of making 4th spot their own as the busy Christmas schedule begins, Swansea visit White Hart Lane hoping to compound Spurs' woes and bounce back from last week's surprise 4-3 loss to Norwich.
That loss at on Merseyside last week will have dented Tottenham's confidence after they had managed to string together three solid victories. In the race for the 4th and final Champions League spot in the league, Spurs have a history of managing to seemingly do everything in their power to just miss out, and another season of disappointment could see Spurs fans turn on the club. With their home form looking shakier than in previous seasons, defeats at the hands of Wigan and Norwich have the White Hart Lane faithful grow restless already, and although Swansea offer an attractive, fast-paced style of football, those same fans will expect three points.
If Andre Villas-Boas is to get the win, his side will need to be lined up differently to last week, after 4-4-2 was against show as a weak formation to use. With the return of Scott Parker and Younes Kaboul imminent, Spurs will be delighted to see mercurial full back Benoit Assou-Ekotto back in the squad, and the Cameroon international may well be thrown straight into the starting team after the recent form of Steven Caulker will likely see Jan Vertonghen return to a central role. Looking to defend their all-time unbeaten home record against the Welsh team, Tottenham will again be relying on their impressive attack, and club leading goal scorer Jermain Defoe. Having already shown up his pre-season critics with 13 goals this season, we have enhanced his price to score in a Spurs win to 2/1 (from 7/5).
Without doubt, the home team's biggest weakness this season has been at the back, and having secured on;y one clean sheet at the Lane since AVB joined in the summer, Swansea's free-flowing attack could have great fun in this early Sunday kick-off. Michael Laudrup knows that last week's high-scoring defeat could prove costly to their momentum, yet are likely to set their stall out early in North London. The return of captain Ashley Williams will help sure things up at the back for the Swans, and he could for the backbone of a team capable of repeating the heroics of a fortnight ago, on their last visit to the capital, when they beat Arsenal in convincing fashion.
The difference maker that day was Michu, who has netted five of Swansea's ten away goals on the year, and at £2m, has proven to be the signing of the season so far. With fantasy football players everywhere revelling in their early-season pick-ups of the Spanish striker, some wonder when his form may hit a rut. With support from both flanks , and a solid midfield led by Leon Britton laying the foundations behind him, it may well be that the Premier League's leading goal scorer continues his fine run throughout the season, and as such, we have enhanced his price to score in a Swansea win to 9/1 (from 5/1).
